2026: Wink bought "Smotryoshka." The deal was estimated at 4 billion rubles
On January 19, 2026, the Wink online cinema (a joint venture between Rostelecom and the National Media Group) acquired the Smotreshka service. The information was confirmed to the RBC newspaper by company representatives and data from the Unified State Register of Legal Entities (USRUL).
After the transaction, 100% of the authorized capital of LifeStream (a legal entity of Smotreshki) was transferred to Restrim Media (a legal entity of Wink). Previously, the owners of Smotreshka were its founders: General Director Alexander Kiselevich (89% of the shares), Timur Rodionov (7.25%) and Georgy Yufa (3.75%).
Smotryoshka provides online cinema and IP television services (more than 550 channels) through regional Internet providers, which then resell them to end subscribers.
The head of the online cinema Wink Anton Volodkin called the acquisition a logical step for business development. "For us, this is an exit to a new promising and growing segment of the market: we acquire a player with a built-up business and a loyal client base," Volodkin said. He also said that Smotryoshka will retain its independence and brand, and its team and management will remain in their places. There are no plans to change tariffs.
Experts interviewed by RBC estimated the deal in the range of 3.5-4 billion rubles. According to them, the service occupies 68% of the video services market for providers that do not have their own platforms, and serves about a third of the Russian home Internet market. Users of the service demonstrate high engagement, spending an average of 4.1 hours a day in it.
For Wink, this is the second major takeover: according to RBC, in 2022, the video service acquired the platform more.tv. At the end of 2024, Wink's share of the independent streaming market was 16.2%.[1]
