History

2025: Opening of steel structure plant in Orel for ₽3,5 billion

Severstal Steel Solutions Group has completed an investment project to develop the production of steel structures at the Orel plant with an investment of ₽3,5 billion. This was reported by the press service of Severstal on October 14, 2025.

The project was implemented with the support of the Industrial Development Fund of the Russian Federation. The new production complex with an area of ​ ​ 22 thousand square meters will become one of the largest in Russia.

The enterprise will allow producing 32 thousand tons of metal structures by 2028. Taking into account the existing capacities, the production volumes of metal structures at the Orel site will triple - up to 48 thousand tons of products per year. The production line of the new complex includes a full cycle of metal structures: from cutting metal rolled products of the required thickness to finished products with a finish coating.

The project for the construction of a new production complex was launched in 2023. The work included dismantling the unused spans of the existing production workshop. A new building on a metal frame was built in their place.

By the start of production, nine units of the main technological equipment were installed. The list includes two crushing plants, three sawing-drilling lines and two plasma cutting plants. Also installed are line of automatic welding of I-beam and line of automatic welding of large-section box beam. In Russia, there is no such unit yet.

FRP allocated ₽691 million for the purchase and installation of the main technological equipment. The funds were provided under a concessional loan agreement. This allowed the company to purchase modern production equipment for the new complex.

Severstal CEO Alexander Shevelev commented on the significance of the project. According to him, the launch of a new production of metal structures represents a strategic step not only for the company, but for the entire construction industry of the country. Unique equipment will help Severstal Steel Solutions open new markets and produce large heavy-weight steel structures at the Orel site.^[1]
