History
2021: Investments from RDIF and RYAIF in the amount of 1 billion rubles
The capital of SBI Bank (subsidiary of the Japanese holding SBI Holdings in Russia) will include the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and the Russian-Japanese Investment Fund (RYAIF, created by RDIF, Japan Bank for International Cooperation and JBIC IG Partners). Investors on January 25, 2021 signed an agreement with the Japanese corporation SBI Holdings, the sole participant in SBI Bank, on investment in capital in the amount of 1 billion rubles.
Over the past three years, SBI Bank has more than tripled its assets through lending to customers of small and medium-sized businesses, has become a prominent player in the electronic banking guarantee market for participants in the public procurement market, and has also offered individuals a unique solution for managing family finances and savings.
"The investments of RDIF and RYAIF in the capital of SBI Bank are aimed at creating a leading bank in Russia for the use of digital and high technologies together with SBI Holdings, our strategic partner from Japan. Support for projects that introduce advanced technologies and are aimed at strengthening Russian-Japanese investment cooperation is one of the key areas of activity of the Russian-Japanese Investment Fund. We are confident that this partnership will benefit both SBI Bank and the entire Russian banking segment, and the use of our general expertise will support the further development of an effective business model and the application of modern solutions in the field of fintech, "said Kirill Dmitriyev, General Director of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF). |
"It is very important for us to get support for the correctness of our strategy from world-class investors implementing national projects of their states. This will give an additional impetus to the development of SBI Bank as a universal financial institution supporting the Russian economy, and will also help us implement even more initiatives to bring Japanese business to the Russian market, "said Andrei Karjakin, Chairman of the Board and member of the SBI Bank Board of Directors. |
2020: Increase in capital by 4 billion rubles.
On October 6, 2020, it became known that SBI Bank completed the process of increasing its own funds (capital) by 4 billion rubles at the expense of the shareholder SBI Holdings, Inc. (Es-Bi-Ai Holdings, Inc., Japan). As of October 1, 2020, the Bank's capital indicator for Basel III exceeded 6.8 billion rubles.
The capitalization of SBI Bank is another consistent step within the framework of SBI Holdings long-term strategy aimed at developing the Bank as a universal financial institution, improving its sustainability and further strengthening its position in the banking market.
SBI Holdings considers Russia a strategic market and believes in its potential. The increase in capital indicates our shareholder's satisfaction with the results of the Bank's previous stage of development and readiness to promote its further growth in promising directions. Recapitalization will allow us to continue to improve the Bank as a high-tech financial service for the SME segment and retail customers, "said Andrei Karjakin, Chairman of the SBI Bank's Management Board. |
SBI Bank faces important challenges in further increasing lending to the Russian economy and Russian small and medium-sized businesses. In this direction, the Bank is already showing serious industry average growth indicators. In 2020 alone, as of 01.09.2020, the size of the loan portfolio of legal entities and SMEs reached 7.5 billion rubles. And the portfolio of express guarantees issued by the Bank amounted to 3.8 billion rubles.
The Bank's business model is based on the use of digital technologies, with the active use of both Russian and foreign fintech solutions offered by SBI Holdings. At the end of 2019, SBI Bank brought to the retail market the concept of the family bank "Its Circle," as well as a digital ecosystem for entrepreneurs. Another important area of the SBI Bank's strategy is the introduction of representatives of large and medium-sized Japanese businesses to the Russian market, where a number of projects were also implemented.

In February 2018, the company "YAR-Bank" was renamed "Es-Bi-Ai Bank."
