2023: Sibur invests up to $3 billion in production of 570,000 tonnes of polypropylene in Tobolsk
Sibur will build a plant in Tobolsk, Tyumen Region, to produce 570 thousand tons of polypropylene. The head of the company, Mikhail Karisalov, announced this in July 2023.
Here, in Tobolsk, the DGP-2 project is already being implemented, 570 thousand tons of polypropylene will be added to the total piggy bank of production in our country. In 2026, I think the work will be completed, from 2027 Russia, Sibur will receive another capacity, and consumers will receive additional polypropylene, he said (quoted by Interfax). |
Karisalov noted that the raw materials (propane) already available at the plant will be used for this project.
The propane dehydrogenation project and the construction of polypropylene capacity in Tobolsk will allow all the free hydrocarbon raw materials remaining there to finally stop exporting and link them to additional new grades of polypropylene, - explained the head of Sibur. |
In May 2023, the head of the Tyumen region, Alexander Moor, during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, said that Sibur plans to invest $2.5-3 billion in a polypropylene production project in Tobolsk.
Sibur continues to develop the potential of the Tobolsk petrochemical site. As part of an agreement with the Ministry of Energy, they began to implement a new project for the production of polypropylene from propylene by dehydrogenation of propane, Moor said then. |
He also clarified that the site is scheduled for industrial production in 2027.
The Sibur project - Zapsibneftekhim LLC is the largest petrochemical complex in Russia, its construction was completed in May 2019. By July 2023, the total capacity of the complex allows the production of 2.5 million tons of base polymers per year (1.5 million tons of polyethylene and 1 million tons of polypropylene).[1]
2019
At the end of February 2019, the work was completed by 94.4%. The project includes the construction of an ethylene cracker unit with a capacity of 1.5 million tons of ethylene, about 500 thousand tons of propylene and 100 thousand tons of butane-butylene fraction per year, as well as the production of various grades of polyethylene and polypropylene for a total of 2 million tons per year. Total investments - about $9.5 billion.
