2024: Opening of a plant for the production of composite wind blades in Ulyanovsk

JSC "Wind Blade RuSat," which is part of the composite division of the state corporation "Rosatom," in December 2024 opened the first plant in Russia for the production of composite wind blades in Ulyanovsk.

According to Rosatom, the company will produce wind blades 51 meters long and weighing 8.5 tons, using Russian composites in a ratio of 90% glass and 10% carbon composite, with a life of 25 years.

Rosatom launched a plant in Ulyanovsk for the production of Russian composite blades for wind generators

Director General of Rosatom State Corporation Alexei Likhachev said that the launch of production will increase the share of equipment localization from 68% to 85%, which helps to strengthen Russia's technological sovereignty.

After reaching the design capacity, the plant will be able to produce up to 450 wind blades annually, providing equipment for 150 wind turbines per year. The first products will be directed to the Novolak wind farm under construction in Dagestan.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Governor of the Ulyanovsk Region Alexei Russkikh and the General Director of the Rosatom Composite Division Alexander Tyunin. Production was launched with the financial support of the Industrial Development Fund.

The new enterprise is equipped with modern equipment for the production of high-tech composite materials and finished products. The technological process includes a full cycle of operations: from the preparation of raw materials to the final assembly and testing of finished blades.

The launch of production will meet the needs of the Russian wind power industry in key components previously supplied from abroad. This is especially important in the context of the need to develop their own production competencies in strategically important industries.

The plant will not only provide the domestic market with the necessary components, but will also create new high-tech jobs in the region.[1]
