2022: Establishment of a University for the Development of Quantum Computing

In November 2022, it became known that Rosatom is organizing a corporate university for the development of quantum computing. Other universities will also be able to connect to the project, where additional education programs will be implemented.

As specified in the press service of the office of Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, the corporate university for the development of quantum computing on the basis of Rosatom structures is being created to form a personnel reserve of high-tech areas at the federal level.

The Rosatom Corporate University for the Development of Quantum Computing is the next step towards the formation of a domestic educational ecosystem, the implementation of which is inalienably related to the technological sovereignty of the state, "said Ekaterina Solntseva, director of digitalization at Rosatom State Corporation, whose words are quoted by the press service of the Cabinet.

Also, the Presidium of the Government Commission on Digital Development, which is headed by Dmitry Chernyshenko, approved changes to the road maps "Quantum Communications" and "Quantum Computing," which were filled with new events and extended until 2030. In particular, targets were increased, such as the length of quantum networks: by 2025 it should be 7 thousand km, and by 2030 - 15 thousand km. The deadlines for the implementation of both road maps were extended from 2024 to 2030.

The order to update key indicators and road maps, taking into account the need to achieve technological leadership in the medium term, was given by President Vladimir Putin. The development of quantum communications in Russia is carried out by Russian Railways under an agreement of intent with the government, and the development of quantum computing is carried out within the framework of an agreement of intent between the government and Rosatom^[1]
