Astra Group owners invest in Technorad

The manufacturer of robotic systems Technored and IK Varton signed a corporate agreement at Technopolice Moscow on May 14, 2025, in which they recorded a future investment deal. We are talking about the acquisition of IK Warton's stake in Technorad. According to TAdviser, the company can gradually buy out up to 51% of the robot manufacturer. Forbes calls IK Varton the company of the main owner of the Astra Group software developer Denis Frolov and the latter's general director Ilya Sivtsev.

The terms of investment have not yet been disclosed. They will be made public later, after signing all the documents on the deal, representatives of the parties explained to the press. It is planned to complete it in the near future. Investment bank BSF Partners takes part in organizing the transaction.

Technorad and IK Varton expect that this cooperation will contribute to a significant acceleration of the development and introduction of domestic robots.

On the part of Technorad, the contract was signed by the founder and general director of the company Artyom Lukin, and the second side was represented by Ilya Sivtsev, general director of a number of Varton legal entities, including IK Varton.

"IC Warton is investing in vibrant manufacturing assets and delivering good economic results. The robotics market is showing high growth rates and opens up new prospects for us. This is an investment in the future and the opportunity to take one of the key positions in it not only in Russia, but also far beyond its borders, "says Ilya Sivtsev.

On the same day, in the same place, Technorad and Astra Group signed an agreement on a strategic technological partnership in the development of full-cycle robotization. In this case, we are talking about the use of Astra Group products in the design and creation of robots, optimization of Technored technical processes, and so on. The technological base of the project is the entire range of software from the Astra Group ecosystem, including the specialized Astra Linux Embedded OS, which supports various types of equipment and hardware platforms, as well as the patented robotic solutions Technored.

Both signatures took place at the official opening of the first Russian robot center and the Tekhnored plant in the Tekhnopolis special economic zone (SEZ Moscow). Previously, the production of Technorad was based on another site, and now it is planned to develop and expand it here. In fact, Technorad came here and began to develop production back in August 2024, but only recently became a resident of the SEZ.

From the presentation of Technorad presented on the day of signing the agreement

Ilya Sivtsev, after signing, explained to the press that Astra Group has nothing to do with the investment activities of Technorad and Varton, just he himself as the CEO of Astra Group, "as an entrepreneur and shareholder" owns the practice of interaction, including with financial investors: "And it seems that the experience that I have will also be useful to Artyom Lukin as part of his IPO tasks." Perhaps thanks to this IPO will be held not in 2030, as now planned, but earlier - for example, in 2027, suggested Ilya Sivtsev.

Answering TAdviser's questions, Artyom Lukin clarified that the IPO for the company is relevant mainly due to future international expansion. Technored is primarily interested in friendly countries, including India and Latin America: "After all, there is a much larger market than ours."

But before that, in Russia, Technorad set itself ambitious goals: in the next five years, by 2030, the production and integration into production of up to 25 thousand robots out of 85 thousand provided for by the national project "Development of industrial robotics and automation of production." Among the strategic goals is also a significant expansion of the pool of technological partners throughout Russia until 2030, "so that robots can be reached as easily as Ozon and Wildberries," Artyom Lukin told TAdviser. One of the expected effects of this is to help defuse the personnel problem in an industry now sorely lacking workers.

The current production facilities of Technorad - a complex with an area of 2,500 m ² - when personnel work in 3 shifts, they allow the production of about 1,000 robots per year. This is not enough to achieve the targets. Therefore, the company expects to launch a second production site in 2026 in order to expand its capacity, deepen product localization and launch new models. "Both of our sites should give 25 thousand robots on a cumulative basis by 2030," says the general director of Technored.

From the presentation of Technorad presented on the day of signing the agreement

About 200 million rubles of Tekhnored's own funds were invested in the first production site, and investments in the 2nd site are estimated at about 1 billion rubles.

Technored creates Russian robotic systems - an alternative to products from world leaders, including ABB, Kuka, etc. With the departure of the latter in Russia, a gap in the market formed. During a tour of production on May 14 in the laboratory where the development, prototyping, testing of new products is underway, it was possible to observe the process of 3D scanning one of the product models of the Danish competitor Technored - Universal Robots: "We are equal to the best," said Arthur Kharkov, head of the Technored development department. "To assemble something similar, we need to get a 3D model of this product."

During
3D scanning

As Arthur Kharkov TAdviser specified, we are not talking about copying other people's products, but about creating functionally competitive ones. According to this principle, about 10-15 devices have already been created that replace the products of departed vendors. Among them are gripping devices and robotic complexes.

Tekhnorad collaborative robots are still assembled manually by screwing large-node assembly. This is the very beginning of a large ambitious project to localize the production of industrial robots, explained the head of the Technorad development department.

As for the component base, the company claims that about 50-70% of the components they use are produced in Russia or purchased from Russian suppliers. The rest "Technorad" is still imported from abroad. For example, reducers are still used imported, since the company is primarily focused on market needs and the current price level. "But we are already working with domestic enterprises, including with 'Android technology', the possibility of supplying domestic gearboxes," says Artur Kharkov.

Assembly shop

The established technological partnership with Astra Group "gives a little hint" of where Technorad may soon find itself in terms of microelectronics, said Artyom Lukin, answering TAdviser questions. We are talking about the potential use of Baikal processors, including.

He also stressed that specialists in the field of robotics are more difficult to mine than the component base. The company even had to create its own university specifically for nurturing personnel.

Recently, there has been active talk on the market about the possible return of Western suppliers of high-tech products. Hypothetically, it can also occur in the robotics segment. However, Artyom Lukin believes that Western vendors are unlikely to return. They had previously left very ugly, either disconnecting their equipment already installed with customers, or leaving the equipment without service. But if they return, then "the market will be enough for everyone," because Russia is still in one of the last places in terms of robotization density, said the general director of Technorad.

Industrial Robot Production Launch

Technored, a developer and manufacturer of industrial robots, components and software, in January 2025 began shipping the first devices from a new production site in the Technopolice Moscow special economic zone.

According to the portal of the mayor of Moscow, the first robotic complexes produced at the Pechatniki site were sent to enterprises in Moscow, Smolensk and Samara in December 2024. Minister of the Government of Moscow, Head of the Department of Investment and Industrial Policy Anatoly Garbuzov emphasizes the importance of developing high-tech production in the capital.

Moscow "Technored" launched the production of industrial robots

The company's product line includes eight robotic systems for various industries, including machine operators and palletizers. The launch of additional production will allow the company to accelerate the development of new types of devices and increase production capacity.

The company plans to create a full-fledged robocenter on the territory of the special economic zone, combining a production site, a research laboratory and a competence center. The implementation of the project in a full ecosystem format is scheduled for early 2025.

The special economic zone "Technopolice Moscow" provides investors with a preferential regime of entrepreneurial activity and is the leader in international and national industry ratings. This status allows resident companies to receive additional advantages for the development of innovative industries. The city authorities provide comprehensive support to companies, contributing to the innovative development of their scientific and production base.

The production of domestic industrial robots is becoming an important element of the technological independence of the Russian industry and contributes to the development of the import substitution program in the field of high technologies.[1]

2024: The start of construction of the plant for 1.5 billion rubles

The Russian company Technored, specializing in the development and production of universal serial robotic systems, has begun construction of a new plant in Moscow worth 1.5 billion rubles. According to information published on July 1, 2024, the launch of the production complex is planned to be carried out by the end of 2024.

The implementation of this project will allow Technored to significantly increase the volume of products. By 2025, the company intends to increase production capacity from 530 to 1.5 thousand units per year, and by 2030 - to bring this figure to 12 thousand units.

One of the key objectives of the new production is to increase the level of localization to 90% by 2027. This will reduce dependence on imported components and strengthen the company's position in the robotics market.

Technored plans not only to localize production, but also to create unique systems. Already in 2025, the company intends to release industrial robots with an integrated artificial intelligence system, which will significantly increase their functionality and efficiency.

By 2027, the Russian developer plans to launch the production of a fundamentally new line of robots, which will combine the advantages of collaborative and industrial robots. This innovation is designed to erase the traditional separation between the two types of robots and become a new stage in the development of robotics.
