2016

CTV revenue up nearly a quarter

The revenue of Digital Television (CTV) grew by almost a quarter (23%) in 2016 - to 2.24 billion rubles, Vedomosti writes with reference to Dmitry Mednikov, deputy general director of VGTRK, which owns about 59% of CTV. The remaining share is owned by Rostelecom, whose head Sergei Kalugin also confirmed the performance of the CTV.

The company receives the bulk of its revenues, up to 80%, through deductions from Russian cable and satellite TV operators, but the CTV plans to reduce this figure to 40%, while increasing revenues from foreign business.

"Over the
past two years, we have been actively selling our content, primarily animated series and educational documentaries in global markets. To do this, we translate content into several languages, "Mednikov quotes the publication.

According to him, DTV plans to promote mobile applications in foreign markets. So far, the company's content is available in Asian countries - China, South Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, as well as in Eastern Europe. Despite the plans announced in 2015, the DTV has not yet been able to enter South America, as in the USA and Western Europe.

The company's investments in the development of new areas amounted to more than 1 billion rubles in 2016 - thus, the company is currently unprofitable, but Mednikov called it a "conscious investment in the future."
