CyanogenMod is a firmware of cell phones and tablets on Android OS basis.
CyanogenMod is mobile OS, in its structure the task scheduler of BFS acts, it integrates an experimental branch and an official tree of the source code Android.
The mobile platform CyanogenMod created in 2010 on the basis of Android has about several advantages before Android. Among them there is an expanded support of visual subjects, support of the FLAC codec, the database of access points, the client of OpenVPN, the improved menu of reset, support of function of distribution of the Internet on Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB, a possibility of acceleration of the processor, etc. The list of officially supported devices includes about 250 models, among them — gadgets of all popular brands, including flagman offices of Samsung.
The profitable difference of CyanogenMod from Android is that smartphone manufacturers should not pay Cyanogen of a royalty for each sold device as it happens in a case to Google. Also Cyanogen does not require preset together with the OS of a large number of applications.
CyanogenMod is distributed for free, but it has a commercial version of Cyanogen OS. It is set on products such producers as Alcatel, Wileyfox, BQ, Yu, ZUK and OnePlus. Perhaps, these companies should begin to install Android added with Modular OS on the devices.
2016
Development of CyanogenMod is stopped
On October 11, 2016 it became known of failure of Cyanogen company from further development of CyanogenMod OS - Android alternative.
It is supposed that Cyanogen will create a set of additions and modifications for Android under the name Modular OS - modules modifications and additions which smartphone manufacturers will be able to use in the addition to Android.
Modifications will be created on the basis of separate parts of CyanogenMod. The project received the name Modular OS. The CEO Lior Tal announced it changes in the strategy of the company[1].
Notes in the official statement of Tala that Android ecosystem became too fragmented in recent years that does it vulnerable in terms of cyber security and also complicates individual adjustment under devices of the specific producer. Additional services are, as a rule, cut for the sake of the best payback of a basic product. However the need for additions and modifications remains — her company hopes to satisfy using Modular OS.
Kirt McMaster, the ex-director of Cyanogen the Company decided to sell in parts a product which was difficult to be sold entirely. Producers which do not want to buy full OS will be able to purchase those its parts which proved the more effective work in comparison with Android. |
