D-Link DWR-980

On June 24, 2019 the company D-Link provided hybrid router DWR-980 with support VDSL2 4G LTE, Wi-Fi AC1200 and two FXS ports for use in the wireless networks of the SMB/SOHO level with increased requirements to fault tolerance internet- connections.

According to the company, DWR-980 uses a hardware platform on the basis of dual core processor MediaTek MT7621A with clock rate of 1 GHz and 128 MB of RAM of DDR2. The device supports all main schemes of connection to the Internet: VDSL2 (ITU G.993.2), LTE and Ethernet WAN L2TP IPv6 (IPoE//PPPoE/PPPoE/PPPoE Dual Stack).

DWR-980 is equipped with WAN port 10/100/1000BASE-T, 4 LAN 10/100/1000BASE-T ports, DSL port with the RJ-11 connector for connection to the VDSL line, USB connector 2.0, the slot for the SIM card and two FXS ports with the RJ-11 connector for connection of analog phones with a possibility of commission of calls via the Internet. A power supply of the router from the portable accumulator is possible.

DWR-980 provides mobile 3G/4G-connection with speeds of receiving and transmitting data up to 150 Mbps and to 50 Mbps respectively. The router is equipped with two external removable antennas 3G/4G with gain amount 3 db and four internal Wi-fi antennas with gain amount 4 db. Replacement of regular LTE antennas portable with the SMA connector is possible. Speed of wireless connection in the ranges of 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz is up to 300 Mbps and up to 867 Mbps respectively.

DWR-980 provides the increased fault tolerance of Internet access due to function of automatic switchable redundancy between connections. In the basic version of software perhaps simultaneous connection to two different providers. Starting with the version of software 4.0.0 will be well double reservation of WAN with the choice of a priority of reserve connections.

Any DWR-980 Ethernet-port can be appointed as LAN or WAN port (no more than one WAN port to the device). In the absence of wire connection on WAN port all five ports of the router can be involved in quality of LAN ports.

The built-in torrent-client and DLNA медиасервер contains DWR-980. The multifunction USB port allows to organize shared access to files of the USB drive or to use the router in quality a print server. Remote access to the drive under the FTP or SMB protocols is possible.

The functionality security of the router provides connection supervision using built in firewall, protection against ARP-and DoS- the attacks, filtering on IP/ URL to the MAC/-addresses, the organization VPN- tunnels (IPsec /L2TP/PPTP). The DMZ function and the built-in service content of filtering Yandex.DNS is supported.

The built-in client of TR-069 for remote diagnostics and control of routers allowing to reduce costs, to increase customer service quality and to reduce load of technical support services contains the software of DWR-980. The service of customization of DWR-980 including placement of a logo on the body, individual design of packaging, development of the built-in software taking into account specific requirements of the customer and adding of necessary functionality, for example, of the SLA agent for monitoring of operability of client networks is available to Internet service providers.

Setup and management DWR-980 are performed via the Web interface or free application D-Link Assistant for mobile devices based on OS Android and iOS. The automatic notification on emergence on the server of updates of D-Link of upgraded versions of the software is supported.

The software of DWR-980 is developed by specialists of the Russian Research and development center of D-Link. In the subsequent versions of software (starting with version 4.0.0) it will be implemented:

• balancing of traffic between two WAN connections;
• support of full-function CLI management;
• L2TP/PPTP server;
• support of GRE tunnels;
• automatic loading of the saved file of a configuration;
• filtering of URL to the MAC addresses.

The DWR-980 router for June, 2019 is available to the order at official resellers of D-Link company. The recommended price for end users is $325.

D-Link DWR-2010

Within the exhibition of consumer CES 2019 electronics the presentation of the D-Link DWR-2010 router which, as envisioned by the producer, should replace wire broadband communication took place. For this purpose the device supports high-speed wireless mobile networks of fifth generation (5G).

To get access to the fast Internet, it is only necessary to connect the home router to the electric socket and to insert the SIM card with sufficient balance. The device is based on Qualcomm SDX55 5G modem. Wi-fi standard 802.11ac and work in two ranges at data transfer rate to 800 Mbps and 1.7 Gbps is supported.

D-Link DWR-2010

Four external antennas for acceptance of a signal by a 5G and five Ethernet-ports are provided: 1 × 2.5 Gbps of LAN, 1 × 1 Gbps of WAN/LAN and 3 × 1 Gbps of LAN. The integrated VoLTE technology allows to make voice calls through 4G-networks.

According to VentureBeat, capacity of a 5G router promises easy stream transfer of 4K-video and "almost zero delay" in online games. Such delay is key characteristic of networks of fifth generation and should provide fast transfer of videos of ultrahigh permission and broadcast of content in the 3D formats and virtual reality. The new structure of D-Link represents to 40 times higher data transmission in comparison with wired networks, notes the edition.

However the price question can appear problem. For example, by the beginning of 2019 Verizon offers in four cities of the USA unlimited rates for a 5G communication worth up to $70 a month.^[1]

The router can work in the millimetric range of a 5G and range up to 6 GHz. The first of them by the beginning of 2019 is available in some American cities, and the second will be unrolled in 2019-2020.

The beginning of sales of D-Link DWR-2010 is expected in the first half of 2019, however terms can change depending on availability of a 5G infrastructure. Product cost at the time of the announcement is not specified.

Notes
