Southern port opened in 2011 is the largest bank DPC in Eastern Europe. The total area of data center is 16,000 sq.m. from which 5000 sq.m. occupy machine halls. Electric power of DPC is 20 MBA.
The DPC centralizes information resources of all territorial banks of Sberbank. For storage and information processing in it solutions of different vendors, including IBM,Oracle,Teradata,EMC, etc. are used.
The innovation airexchange Plate Exchanger Aire Handling Units cooling system was involved in the project. In data center 28 machines of this kind were mounted, each of which is capable to generate 550 kW of cold. In 2012 redstavitel of Sberbank reported that annual savings from implementation of this scheme of cooling should make about 170 Mvt*ch.
For management of mega-DPC the uniform dispatching service integrating dispatching services IT and technical services was created. The uniform dispatching service online obtains information on functioning of all systems of DPC, including on key parameters of business processes of bank that provides efficiency of management of DPC. In addition to dispatching service the situational center for ensuring management of mega-DPC at possible crisis situations was also created.
The project documentation of the platform is certified in Uptime Institute on the level of reliability Tier III. This level provides not only a possibility of carrying out scheduled works on the technical systems without the termination of functioning of DPC, but also its trouble-free operation in case of failures in systems.
For access to the protected zones of mega-DPC the unique system of biometric identification and access control of employees according to the drawing of a blood system is used.
As the general contractor on creation of mega-DPC the Mercury company (Ireland) acted. For launch of DPC in 2011 Sberbank reported that investments into the project made about $1.2 billion, and settlement economy of expenses of bank on maintenance of IT infrastructure since 2015 will make about $500 million a year. A project payback period – about 2.5 years.

History
2011: Opening of mega-DPC
Opening of DPC of Sberbank Southern port took place on November 12, 2011.The Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and the president and also the chairman of the board of bank German Gref took part in it.
Earlier Orlovsky Victor Mikhaylovich in an interview of CNews told about the purposes of construction of mega-DPC: "First of all, we want to use virtualization in which we are engaged very seriously. We, maybe, promoted in this direction not so far as our colleagues for the western banks at which virtualization is nearly 90% of all provided services, but we also go to this direction. I mean virtualization of both jobs, and the different banking program systems working in the client-server architecture. The second task very important for us is creation of absolutely new class SaaS systems. First of all are the systems of client service - the client bank, Internet bank, etc. We see philosophy of development of these systems in a cloud when the client can order ten selected their services, independently create the service portfolio. I will explain on an example. You the small entrepreneur, you open the account in Sberbank and receive online access through which you can purchase not a packet, and each service separately. For example, service which is called "ten payments in rubles a month" and which cost is known. If you need to receive also statements online, then it is one more service. Each of such services should cost absolutely not much - figuratively being expressed, "three kopeks". The client himself selects these services and can from some of them refuse. For example, if he has a seasonal work, and three months in a year he do not work, then it is possible to leave only information service for this period, having purchased blocking of the account, but not paying for all others. Quite so we are going to use the SaaS model. The third task is a centralization of the back office systems of territorial banks. We implement the next generation of the 3-level systems now (the database server, applications and a web show-window). Within this movement we also assume converting in cloud model - it is the interesting perspective direction. In the middle of 2013 Sberbank will work at the single centralized platform. The last – implementations more than 200 different implementation projects of new technologies and functionality".
2012: Certification on the level of reliability Tier III
The Data Processing Center (DPC) of Sberbank Southern port is awarded in the summer of 2012 of the international certification of Uptime Institute on the level of reliability Tier III meaning high rates of fault tolerance of engineering infrastructure (coefficient of fault tolerance of 99.98%). During the meeting of the Senior vice president of Sberbank Victor Orlovsky and the Vice president of Uptime Institute Professional Services Julian Kudritzki Sberbank was handed the appropriate international certificate.
At the beginning of August, 2012 within tests of DPC certification of the implemented solutions of DPC on compliance to requirements of Uptime Institute for infrastructure of DPC was carried out. Within five days the implemented solutions were tested and different emergency situations were modelled. All tests were passed successfully. One of the main indicators of work of DPC — fault tolerance. Creation and certification of DPC on the Tier standard is a guarantee that all works are performed with proper quality, and the set reliability is provided to DPC.
The solutions used by Sberbank during creation of DPC are based on the most high-performance energy-saving technologies corresponding to the best world practices. The DPC Southern port allows to unify maintenance practically of all bank processes, considerably reducing an implementation time of new banking products.
2014: Trial because of servers of IBM
In May, 2014 the Moscow Interregional Investigation Department (MIID) on transport of the IC RF reported that when declaring import of 52 servers of IBM which were installed in data center of Sberbank customs payments for the amount more than 326 million rubles were not paid. The CEO of Servery i Komponenty LLC Irina Elmukova and the employee of this firm Tigran Seysyan who were engaged in a customs clearance of servers were condemned according to Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("The deviation from customs payment made by a group of persons by previous concert in especially large size") and sentenced to a total fine of 750 thousand rubles.
As earlier Kommersant reported, MMSU on transport of the IC RF also suspected unidentified persons from among the staff of Sberbank of commission of the crime provided by Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud"). Materials of investigation were sent for consideration in the Main Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the city of Moscow, however in the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported earlier that there is no criminal case in production. In May, 2014 the Vedomosti newspaper reported that servers of IBM at Croc were purchased by former employees of Sberbank at the price several times exceeding their original cost therefore the damage more than for $200 million was caused to bank.
2020: Sberbank intends to construct Mega-DPC Sberbank the Southern port 2
At the end of October, 2020 it became known of intention of Sberbank to construct new data center in the southeast of Moscow. Placement of an object is planned to the address: 2nd Yuzhnoportovy Drive, 12a, body 1, ownership 12A. There is already a mega-DPC of Sberbank Southern port which is considered one of the largest banking centers of data processing in Eastern Europe. Read more here.
