In 2008 the Dassault Systemes company issued the new platform of the solutions — V6 implementing the concept of PLM 2.0. Open, scalable V6 platform uses universal 3D - language and allows to participate in product lifecycle management by all that who is anyway involved in process of creation of a product. The sixth generation of the PLM solutions DS ensures joint work of all participants of development process and also allows to reduce the cost of deployment, management and support of a PLM system in a work progress over the innovation projects, says Dassault Systèmes.

History of creation of the platform

CATIA — an automated design engineering system (CAD) of the French firm Dassault Systemes. CATIA V1 was an anonsirovna in 1981.

At the moment in the world two versions — V4 and V5 which considerably differ are used. CATIA V4 was announced in 1993 and was created for Unix-like operating systems, CATIA V5 was announced in 1998 and it is the first of versions which can work running Microsoft Windows. On assurance of Dassault Systèmes CATIA V5 it was written from "zero" and personified advanced technologies of a CAD of the end of the 20th century — the beginning of the 21st century.

At first CATIA V5 did not enjoy special popularity in the market, and to stimulate transition from V4 to V5, Dassault Systèmes put forward the concept of PLM (Product Lifecycle Management). The idea of PLM was successful, and it was picked up by almost all industry of a CAD.

In February, 2008 Dassault Systèmes announced the new version of a system — CATIA V6. V6 will support programs of modeling for all engineering disciplines and collective business processes for product lifecycle. The new concept of firm received the name "PLM 2.0 on V6 platform". A concept essence — three-dimensional modeling (3D) and collective work in real time. For communication between the people who are in different places in the world means of simple connection to Web are provided.

According to the president of concern Bernard Charles, PLM 2.0 is the new approach opening an opportunity to use intellectual fruits of on-line interaction. Each user can think out, develop products and communicate about them on universal 3D - language. Users will be able to operate in an evident form with at the same time virtual and real objects.

PLM solution V6 will include the CATIA systems for design automation, ENOVIA for management of engineering data and collective work, SIMULIA for reverse engineering and DELMIA for digital production.

Solutions PLM V6 for small and medium business (SMB) are developed by the Israeli branch of a company Dassault Systèmes Israel (SMARTEAM).

Main competitors are NX from Siemens PLM Software and Pro/ENGINEER from Parametric Technology Corporation.

V6R2011x

The expanded V6R2011x applications include 479 new features and 8 new solutions for the organization of process of joint development in all key industries of DS using the brands CATIA, DELMIA and SIMULIA.

Online the ENOVIA V6R2011x platform is 7 new products and 359 functions for the different industries. Solutions of ENOVIA are allowed customers of DS to use more effective and innovation approach at implementation business of processes and also to look differently at planning processes of programs and vendor interaction. Solutions of ENOVIA are used by technologies of cloud computing for product lifecycle management online. The release of the V6R2011x platform confirms commitment of DS to open solutions with expanded support of such standards as STEP or 3DXML for data transmission, or use of SOA of architecture.

The release of V6R2011x is a step within strategy implementation of sustainable innovative development of Dassault Systemes Universal Services for delivery 3D, joint work and content services based on for realistic perception and interaction for all key markets of DS.

3DVIA V6R2011x provides 68 new and unique 3D services for realistic interaction in 3D - the environment for all industries. At the same time the particular emphasis is placed on such directions as the packaging industry, retail and power and also computer games.

For the organization of joint work on the V6R2011x platform the unique solution for online of interaction of V6 3D is used. Besides, DS continues testing 3DSWYM, the new solution implemented in a cloud environment, and intended for the innovative companies using resources of communities.

And at last, V6R2011x supports the first release of EXALEAD Cloudview 360, the leading search engine of the next generation. The solution Exalead Cloudview is the only search platform providing a high rate of speed, scalability and flexibility in data warehouses and in web space that is relevant for the innovative companies.

V6 release 2012

In release 2012 the solutions based on the XML scheme and Web services, allowing to perform interaction of solutions of the 6th version and other PDM systems are presented, implementing bilateral exchange of 3D prototype designs with exact geometry in the STEP and CATIA V5 format. New level of integration between the 6th version and ERP solutions is available also now in release 2012, expanding possibilities of data exchange about products, processes and resources.

In CATIA V6R2012 numerous achievements in the field of the engineering systems and cross-disciplinary methodology of design are implemented that allows to integrate information on requirements to a product, its functional, logistic and physical characteristics. Now the CATIA portfolio is compatible to system controllers of leading manufacturers, such as Simulink and also allows to implement completely approach of RFLP and to trace product development process in CATIA. V6R2012 platform increases the importance of digital assets in such new spheres as modeling of effect of presence at shops of retail and a global production scheduling system. 3DVIA Shopper together with ENOVIA V6 is the new business solution, ready to application, for retail and merchandising allowing to create realistic virtual environment of shop in 3D.

Using 3DVIA of Shopper, merchandisers and retailers will be able easily to visualize and are better to estimate arrangement of a retail store equipment of shop and the layout of goods, to analyze a consumer consumer behavior that will allow to increase potential sales as much as possible.

The global production system of planning of DELMIA implemented based on V6R2012 platform gives opportunities of uniform data storage to digitize all production capabilities on all supply chain and to adjust network of global production operations between the enterprises. It allows to optimize a global production system of the company, provides integrity of planning and an opportunity to centralize production processes and also increases decision making accuracy at all enterprise levels.

V5-6R2013

The release of V5-6R2013 includes new technology of modeling of composite fibers (on the basis of practices of Simulayt acquired company recently) and also the big openness and support of standards together with the improved simulars of surfaces of the increased complexity is offered. Also it includes mutual support of versions from V6 on V5 about which it was told last year, at the expense of what the next gain of efficiency at the organization of joint work is reached on inside - and the extra corporate level with attraction of packets of V6-V5. Nearly 40 new technologies 3DEXPERIENCE taken from V6R2013 and V6R2013x are a part of updating V5-6R2013.

  • New opportunities of modeling of composite fibers for optimization of a form of layers and exact production of composite materials. This technology based on developments recently of Simulayt acquired company is intended for the analysis of difficult surfaces, in particular in the space industry, motorsport and the energy sector. The module Fiber Modeler initially appeared in V6R2013x, and now is by default available in the version of V5-6R2013 of platform 3DEXPERIENCE;
  • Recently announced openness and support of the techniques of data exchange of STEP approved by ISO is a part of V5 now that guarantees openness of industry standards, data exchange, visualization and long-term archiving of 3D models. The support of the developed ISO of STEP242 standard which is initially stated as a part of a packet to V6R2013x is a part of V5 platform now and allows to import and export BREP and mosaic data, showing the accruing implementation of methodologies 3D Master in the automobile and space industries;
  • Transfer of own opportunities of V6 on V5 platform with the advent of nearly 40 new features of Part Design, Sketcher and Surfacing which are initially developed for 3DEXPERIENCE of versions of V6R2013 and V6R103x including 21 new opportunities as a part of Generative Shape Design, seven new improvements for Part Design and 11 new features of Sketcher continues;
  • The increased compatibility of different versions of V6 and V5. V6 models opened in V5 environment save the elements created in FreeStyle, the Kinematic Mechanism specification and data of Functional Tolerancing & Annotation (FTA) now. All projects created in V6 FreeStyle are edited in V5-6R2013 now. Kinematic characteristics, including joints, commands and a design, can be edited in V5 environment after creation by means of V6 now. At the time of export of information of FTA from V6, all data, including inter-element couplings of FTA and geometry, remain in V5. Today's release expands even stronger possibilities of customers and their suppliers which adopt undoubted advantages of V6, saving former investments into the unrolled V5 systems. New features go addition to the round of increase in compatibility which took place earlier (for example, V6 Part Design, Sketcher and Generative Surface Design and knowledgeware);
  • CATIA ICEM Shape Design expands functionality of high-precision simulars of surfaces of the Class A for account 68 of separate improvements in the structure of Curve Creation, Surface Creation, Modification, Analysis and Infrastructure. Since conceptual study and finishing with final operational development and design engineering, this updating bears in itself a set of the perspective improvements increasing usefulness of the user interface, performance of a graphic subsystem and integration with ICEMSURF.
