2024: Mass Production
On October 1, 2024, it became known about the launch in Russia of serial production of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of the Dandelion series, designed to monitor and protect strategic facilities, including from the sea surface. The new drones feature a unique coaxial propeller pattern, allowing them to operate efficiently in challenging weather conditions.
According to reports, Izvestia the Dandelion UAV is capable of hovering at one point for up to 40 minutes with a wind force of up to 18 m/s and during a rainstorm. According to "Atri" Ruslan Lyapin, Deputy General Director for Development of the JSC development company, the drone withstood gusts of wind up to 40 m/s during bench tests.
The Dandelion's maximum horizontal flight speed reaches 100 km/h, and the payload varies from 1 to 3.2 kg. The drone requires only 1.5 by 1.5 metres of free space to launch, making it suitable for use from a variety of platforms, including offshore facilities.
Together with the UAV, the Ampel transport and launch complex was developed, which can serve as a charging and heating station. This makes it possible to place complexes along protected perimeters, providing continuous observation of the area.
Military expert Dmitry Kornev notes that the small dimensions of the Dandelion make it difficult to detect and defeat it. In addition, the drone may be less visible in the infrared spectrum due to its size.
Captain 1st Rank Vasily Dandykin emphasizes the advantages of a coaxial scheme that allows the device to fly back and forth, as well as hover at one point. This is especially important for capturing and transmitting images while protecting strategically important objects.
In 2024, the Dandelion-3 UAV was included in the register of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and will be delivered to the Rosleskhoz of the Vladimir Region as part of a civil state order. Representatives of the Russian Armed Forces also showed interest in the new drone.[1]
