2024: Investment of RUB 1.09 bln in DBMS development
"Russian Post" invests 1.09 billion rubles in the development of its own database management systems () DBMS under the name DataCloud. This became known on July 5, 2024. This project is part of a strategy to achieve technological independence and ensure safety. critical information infrastructure Russia
According to CNews, the project will be implemented by the subsidiary of Russian Post - Postal Technologies. DataCloud is relational DBMSs designed to calculate, store and distribute data marts with the ability to process large amounts of information. The platform will operate on the principles of Self Service BI, which will allow end users to independently analyze data and create visualizations without the help of technicians.
The project will be financed at the expense of the Russian Post's own funds, including loans provided under the concessional lending program of the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of Russia. The development of DataCloud is part of a large-scale software import substitution program implemented by Russian Post.
Dmitry Ilyin, Deputy General Director of Russian Post for Information Technology, previously noted that the basis for import substitution of software at the enterprise will be the introduction of a microservice architecture for all information systems. In October 2023, the company already transferred to the microservice architecture a single automated system of post offices (EAS OPS), which facilitated integration with other information systems through a special API.
By July 2024, Russian Post operates about 260 different information systems, combined into a single information space using the corporate data bus. Key data is aggregated into DataCloud to build analytics. However, there are two information systems, the transfer of which to domestic software causes certain difficulties: the complex of automatic sorting of departures and the transport management system (TMS), which provides logistics of departures.[1]
2020:3 billion rubles of investments in the development of Data Cloud
On October 12, 2020, Russian Post announced the investment of 3 billion rubles in the development of a single information and analytical platform Data Cloud, which collects and integrates absolutely all the data that the postal operator faces. These funds are planned to be spent over several years to improve the quality of data, their accumulation and processing.
On October 12, 2020, Russian Post connected AliExpress logistics partner Cainiao Network to Data Cloud, as a result of which companies began to directly exchange data.
Integration helped reduce the share of undelivered goods from 10% to 3-5%, and the delivery time to the largest cities decreased by almost one and a half times, the Russian Post said. As stated in the press release, Cainiao delivers more than 90% of all AliExpress orders in the world - this is about 2 million orders per day, 25% of which are in the Russian market.
Due to the analysis of data, Russian Post began to see a logistical problem not only when the user informs about it, but also in a proactive mode. The so-called data marts allow you to mark and highlight AliExpress products and control the quality of delivery.
Improving the quality of delivery of goods is a clear example of how a responsible attitude towards data can work for the benefit of people, "says Maxim Akimov, General Director of the Russian Post. - Taking care of the client is a necessary condition for the establishment of the Post as a supporting logistics partner for the Russian and international Internet trade industry. We are confident that the most correct way to achieve this goal lies through the digitalization of existing processes and the creation of new, initially based on data. |
Cainiao Network plans to invest more than 1 billion rubles in the development of IT platforms and business localization in the Russian Federation in 2020.[2]
