Optimizing Reliability with Resibloc Dry Transformers

On September 6, 2021, Hitachi ABB Power Grids announced that dry transformers of the RESIBLOC type helped optimize the reliability of the Miran -2 data center in Russia. More details here.

Completion of Data Center Expansion

The Miran company on April 27, 2021 announced the completion of the construction of a new stage of the second data center "Miran -2" on Yevpatoriya Lane.

The Miran -2 data center complies with the Tier III standard of the Uptime Institute. The estimated capacity of the new queue is 300 server cabinets, the IT load capacity is 1500 kW.

In the data center, customers can connect to more than 50 carriers. They also have access to space rental, colocation and IT infrastructure rental services. It is assumed that the demand will be for dedicated halls for the placement of equipment for 10 and 60 stalls equipped with an individual video surveillance and access control system.

According to Miran, modern technologies have been introduced in the data center: for example, a busbar that allows you to flexibly rebuild the connection of equipment of any capacity, power transformers, which are now in close proximity to the consumer in order to increase economic efficiency, as well as color marking of all engineering equipment and its subsystems.

Access to server cabinets is carried out using a one-time code - the client can install it on his own. Using this code, you can go to the protected area of the data center, the server room and get into the corridor in which the client's racks are located. At the same time, round-the-clock security still works in the data center, and there is a strict access mode, the company emphasized.

As Vitaly Nikolaev, Director of Operation and Construction of Miran Data Center, noted, the use of new engineering technologies did not affect the economic model of the commercial data center. According to him, the company scrupulously selected equipment and suppliers.

2014: Commissioning of the data center on Yevpatoriya Lane

In early February 2014, Miran commissioned a second data center located in St. Petersburg on Yevpatoriya Lane, 7. Active work is underway with potential customers, which already allows us to talk about high demand for new high-quality facilities. Investments in construction, Miran plans to recoup in 3 years.

The new Miran -2 data center, with an area of 1115 sq.m., consists of two parts - a prepared platform for placing modules with a deployed system for providing continuous power supply, air preparation, monitoring systems, a communication node, customer service rooms, a storage room for spares and the modular data centers themselves. Each module has 24 47U deep server cabinets with a design power of 5-14 kW per cabinet. At the new site, Miran plans to place a total of 9 modules, in two stages - 4 and 5 modules, respectively. At the final stage, the total installed capacity of the MIRAN- 2 data center will reach 1.5 MVA. The module was developed by the St. Petersburg company GreenMDC, has a Rostest certificate of conformity. Customers are offered services for placing server, telecommunication equipment in server cabinets, connecting to any operator of telecommunications services on the principle of Carrier Free (without additional payments and hidden restrictions), PCI-DSS, renting server equipment, leasing or selling an entire server module.

The engineering systems of the module meet the requirements of Tier III of the TIER standard for data centers. The system of heat removal from the equipment is implemented using innovative technology GreenMDC using the combination of FREE COOLING technology - the technology of direct hot air removal from the equipment and the traditional industrial air conditioning system. Power redundancy is provided by two 120 kVA uninterruptible power supplies each connected via a 2N circuit. Battery units are designed to maintain 6 minutes of full power. This time is enough to launch two standby Cummins diesel generator units with a capacity of 703 kW. The dispatch system provides the receipt and transmission of the necessary parameters, including information on the consumption of each rack, from the equipment to the site operator.

The module is equipped with a gas fire extinguishing system, fire alarms, video surveillance and access control systems. In case of fault of engineering equipment, as well as climatic parameters inside the module outside the specified limits, the fault information is immediately transmitted to the site operator on duty.

"In 2014, we plan to commission 2 modules, the second will be ready by mid-2014. A feature of the data center is that it is a modular structure that is assembled at the plant and brought to the place in assembled condition. This allows you to reduce the construction time, as well as make the object more mobile and ready for transportation at any time, which allows you to transfer it to another site without compromising the data, "says Igor Sitnikov, general director of TC Miran. - The successful experience of the first data center shows that the market of data centers in St. Petersburg is not yet saturated, and even large companies are in search of space. Therefore, we are confident that we can find tenants. "

According to the specialists of TK Miran, the customers of data centers are becoming more demanding: in addition to the standard necessary set of services, they are interested in quality, as well as the cost, which should not be higher than the average market. The main tenants remain companies working in the field of IT, the Internet, as well as financial organizations.

2013: Start of construction of the second data center in St. Petersburg

Miran began construction of a second data center in St. Petersburg in the spring of 2013. The concept provides an innovative model of modular data center, which will reduce site requirements.

According to Miran, the company's data center is 98% full, and therefore a decision was made to build a second data center at 7 Yevpatoriya Lane.

"The second data center will be located in the same industrial microdistrict as the first site. First of all, this is due to the existing electrical infrastructure and purchased capacity, "said Igor Sitnikov, general director of TC Miran. - The new Miran Data Center will occupy an area of about 800 square meters, on which data center modules, a service module for technical support, as well as several diesel generator units and a transformer substation will be located. " Within 1 year, it is planned to lease 2 modules
.

The main distinguishing feature of the data center 2.0, according to Miran, will be a modular design, which will provide: a short time for commissioning a new module; low requirements for room or area for modules placement; possibility of disassembling the module and transportation to another site; and the ability to change the reliability level of the module independent of others, which, according to company representatives, can reduce the cost of data centers for non-critical modules or increase the reliability of the module due to double redundancy of all key systems.

Each module is designed for 24 server cabinets with a design power of 8 kVA per cabinet. "A pleasant feature for the tenant will be that he can get a dedicated room for his servers. The cost of the server cabinet in the new data center will be identical to the rental cost in the first data center, "Miran noted. - At the same time, it will be possible to order the rental of a module assembled on an individual order. "

All communication services available in the first data center will be automatically broadcast in the new data center.
