"Dawn" represents family of software platforms on Linux kernel:

Dawn OS (special option of execution) is the protected operating system, is intended for application in computer engineering means with processor architecture of x86 and x86_64 in the special purpose automated systems using mechanisms and means of cryptographic information protection.

Dawn of RV OS — is POSIX - the compatible operating system and is held for use as the operating system for systems working in real time on 32-bit hardware platforms: Intel x86, PowerPC, MIPS, ARM, DLX.

"Dawn DPC" — the protected operating system is intended for control of modern server platforms based on high-performance computers of 64-bit processor architecture in special purpose automated systems in the protected execution. This version of OS allows to organize the application server or a database server. For creation of data center a standard set of server programs, means of virtualization and an opportunity for work on "big iron" is provided in Dawn DPC OS (mainframes, etc.).

By request of the Ministry of Defence the Central scientific research institute of economy, information science and management systems (Central Research Institute EISU) was engaged in development of Dawn.

The developer Dawn OS demands 500 thousand rubles for moral damage

In January, 2016 Vadim Podolny announced the former employee of Central Research Institute EISU that he has legal proceedings with the ex-employer because of copyright of Dawn OS. The fact that at registration of the operating system in the fall of 2015 Podolny was not mentioned in Rospatent as the coauthor of development was the cause for appeal to the court.

Podolny requires to recognize his right of co-authorship concerning Dawn OS, to nullify the certificate on state registration of the program and to collect from Central Research Institute EISU compensation of moral harm in the amount of 500 thousand rubles, follows from the statement of claim which TAdviser studied.

Trial concerns one of versions of Dawn OS - the version in special execution. In Central Research Institute EISU Vadim Podolny directed its development, he told TAdviser: "I was employed to develop OS on replacement of MSVS OS". Development was conducted since 2011. In the statement of claim it is mentioned that in February, 2014 Podolny was appointed to the position of the deputy chief designer of ROC for Dawn OS.

In general development was executed by the end of 2013, and in July, 2014 FSB issued on a system the certificate valid till December, 2018. In November, 2014 Podolny left Central Research Institute EISU. Together with it the company was left also by the main part of development team which he directed (about 10 people), he told TAdviser. Further Podolny was not included a project team of Dawn OS, acceptance tests of a prototype of a system were carried out already without it.

Vadim Podolny claims that under the guise of other version of Dawn OS in Rospatent that version of OS which development he directed was registered. Actually in Central Research Institute EISU there were two competing teams which were engaged in development of Dawn, he told TAdviser. From the list of the employees listed as authors of development in the certificate of Rospatent only one really is related to development of the protected version of OS, Podolny says. The others, according to its version, participated in development of other version - "Dawn DPC".

According to a source of TAdviser close to Central Research Institute EISU, Podolny's claim has under itself no reasons since widely known product "Dawn" – it is perfect other operating system made by request of the Ministry of Defence. It has the unique decimal number other than that system about which the claimant speaks.

A system which coauthor is Podolny is the initiative product created by a development team out of any order, the interlocutor of TAdviser adds: "It is based on other kernel of Linux which is not supported any more, it has other management system for services. The most important difference is that relevant Dawn has the certificate of the Ministry of Defence which is not containing restrictions for its application and actively is implemented on objects of the Ministry of Defence, in difference from Dawn about which Podolny speaks".

Vadim Podolny, in turn, expressed bewilderment concerning the words of a source and noted that that conducts it is about other version of OS for which it also did not apply. The certificate of FSB continues to affect the protected Dawn OS, he added.

Central Research Institute EISU provided in Rospatent the request with obviously incorrect data on authorship therefore the development created with my most active participation is registered officially, in the register, open for general data, for other persons now. This scandalous thing on me inflicts considerable moral suffering (moral harm). Besides, after dismissal from Central Research Institute EISU I certain time could not get the job corresponding to my qualification as I could not document a deposit to over what, mainly, worked for the defendant the last years. Also instead of being engaged in the favourite work, I am forced to spend time, nerves and forces for protection of the rights in court, - proves moral damage in the statement of claim Vadim Podolny.

As of January, 2016 the command which was directed by Podolny in Central Research Institute EISU participates "in the serious project for other company", he reported TAdviser.

The Dawn operating system protected from espionage is ready to serial production

As Dawn corresponds to the third class of protection against unauthorized access and the second level of absence control of not declared opportunities, this OS can find application in the security agencies, public sector and the companies working with the state secret, personal and commercial data. On the basis of Dawn, in particular, the system of electronic "military IDs" — the personal cards of the military personnel implemented in the Russian army will work.

OS is compatible to many traditional "office" software therefore it can be applied to the organization of full-fledged jobs with usual services and software and also as base for automated control systems.[1]

Potential consumers of Dawn are security agencies, defense industry, commercial structures where work with the state secret, commercial and personal data is conducted. DPCs which service the system of electronic "military IDs" created now in Russia – the personal cards containing several tens of parameters – all accounting information on the serviceman, including state of his health, in particular, will work at Dawn. This project is implemented under the direction of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
