On September 11, 2019 the company Dell Technologies provided updates in family of arrays Dell EMC PowerMax. The array Dell of EMC PowerMax is equipped with two-port drives Intel Optane SSD and uses memory of Storage Class Memory (SCM) as non-volatile storages.

According to the statement of the developer, also the NVMe-oF interface that provides really end-to-end use of NVMe and, as a result, - the high performance and short delay necessary for the modern enterprises is also available to all arrays of PowerMax. End-to-end use of NVMe technology in PowerMax became possible thanks to the modules of input-output to switches of PowerMax 32Gb FC, 32Gb which passed qualification tests Connectrix, directors and host- to NVMe adapters of 32 Gbps with the software of PowerPath Multipathing with support of a mnogokanalnost.

As noted in Dell Technologies, the combination of scalable end-to-end architecture of NVMe PowerMax and use of the drives SCM allows customers to receive faster and effective storage system which provides:

  • Up to 15 million IOPS
  • Bandwidth is up to 350 GB / with
  • Up to 50% the best response time
  • Delay when reading less than 100 microseconds.

Thanks to the built-in mechanism of machine learning PowerMax clients can use intellectual analytics and recognition of templates for automatic placement of data on the basis of the profile of input-output on carriers of correctly selected type (SCM or NVMe). PowerMax analyzes and predicts 40 million data sets in real time, making 6 billion decisions a day that it gives significant savings of time and provides high performance at the minimum costs, claim in Dell Technologies.

According to the producer, arrays of Dell EMC PowerMax allow clients to automate easily infrastructure transactions and workflows of DevOps. Clients can use PowerMax for configuration management and deployment of applications, including workloads in containers. And automation of problems of selection of resources and infrastructure management of PowerMax provides flexibility and efficiency of IT transactions of clients. At the same time the following means are used:

  • The connected module VMware vRealize Orchestrator (vRO) available for September, 2019 in VMware Solutions Exchange. He allows clients to develop complex procedures of automation, including selection/release of resources, data protection and transactions on a host. Clients can also offer these automated procedures as elements of the directory of self-service on the VMware vRealize Automation platform.
  • Previously prepared modules Ansible. They allow clients to create Playbooks for selection of resources of storage, creation of instant pictures and formation of workflows of data management for accomplishment of the approved and automated transactions. These modules are available on GitHub.
  • The connected module Container Storage Interface (CSI) for selection of the PowerMax resources and management of storage for workloads in the environment of Kubernetes. The plug-in of CSI available on GitHub allows to use performance and data services of PowerMax to the growing number of the applications based on microservice architecture.

Cloud validirovanny computing architectures of Cloud Validated Designs for Dell EMC PowerMax - help the organizations to create own hybrid cloud infrastructure, provide flexibility of deployment of workloads, independent scaling of capacity and the integrated data protection.

As noted in Dell Technologies, arrays of data storage of Dell EMC PowerMax and Unity there were validirovana for VMware Cloud Foundation as the main storage in domains workload during the work through Fibre Channel, in addition to the existing support protocol of Network File System (NFS). Dell EMC Cloud Storage Services offers Dell EMC Storage in quality public cloud service for disaster recovery in AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure and also for a set of other scenarios of use of several cloud environments, including to the analyst also testing/development. Cloud Storage Services saves time on system management, provides data protection of the corporate level, performance, capacity, replication and high availability in public clouds.

PowerMax arrays with two-port solid state drives Intel Optane and support of NVMe-oF will go on sale on September 16, 2019. As of September 11 the solutions Dell Technologies Cloud Validated Designs for Dell EMC PowerMax, Dell EMC Cloud Storage Services and the mentioned connected modules are available.

2018: Announcement

The Dell EMC corporation announced on May 8, 2018 the solution for storage of PowerMax of the next generation with the mechanism of machine learning which will allow to implement autonomous system of data storage.

By estimates of the company, using predictive analytics and recognition of patterns, one PowerMax system will be able to provide the analysis and forecasting of 40 million data sets in real time on an array and acceptance of six billion solutions in day automatically to increase performance of loadings in storage system of the mixed data.

Intellectual functions of self-government PowerMax will allow the organizations to redirect resources of the IT systems and employees on achievement of more important strategic business results.
