The name of the base system (platform): | EMC Greenplum Database Edition |
Developers: | Dell EMC |
Technology: | BI, Big Data, Data Mining, DBMS, DWH |
EMC which in July, 2010 purchased Greenplum company offers the specialized server cluster created on the basis of its developments for the organization of the data warehouse — Greenplum Data Computing Appliance. High high-speed performance of a system is provided at the expense of the technology of mass parallel processing developed in Greenplum. According to into EMC, a cluster it is capable to load data twice quicker, than competitive products, such as Teradata, Oracle Exadata and IBM Netezza.[1]
As explain in EMC, the majority of the specialized systems of data warehouses have one head node through which there should pass all loaded data. When importing large volume of data for a short time capacity of such system can fall. The cluster of Greenplum loads information in the parallel mode on all servers for what each of them has the Ethernet-connection. This architecture also allows to accelerate data analysis for the appropriation account of processing of each request between servers.
On the Greenplum Data Computing Appliance servers Greenplum Database 4.0 DBMS is preset. Drives and network equipment also are a part of a complex. In each rack about 16 servers having two six-nuclear Intel processors E5670 are mounted. The rack contains up to 36 Tbyte of data, and a 24-rack system can store up to 5 PBytes in the compression mode.
With release of a cluster in EMC created new division of Data Computing Products Division which will specialize in the software area of data management.
