Growth of volumes of unstructured data demands from the companies of the approaches and opportunities allowing to use these assets within digital transformation. For the solution of these tasks Dell EMC provided addition to the flagman storage system of Isilon All-Flash and also the software of Dell EMC ClarityNow. These solutions, according to the developer, will allow the organizations to browse and move unstructured data and to manage them – as locally, and in a cloud.

In Dell EMC noted that the modern enterprises aim to accelerate obtaining business results in such areas as analytics of data, artificial intelligence and design automation (EDA) using powerful applications of the next generation for work with unstructured data. These workloads often require extremely high performance a flash array. At the same time many organizations are forced to limit strictly capital costs of equipment procurements and to reduce the related operating costs of IT. At the same time in these conditions the organizations need also to manage effectively growing volumes of unstructured data. It will give them the chance more productively and more effectively to disclose the value of the corporate data.

According to the statement of the producer, the array of Isilon F810 has performance up to 250,000 input-output operations per second (IOPS) and capacity of 15 GB / with on chassis 4U. The array of Isilon F810 is scaled up to 144 nodes in a uniform cluster and reaches indicators in 9 million input-output operations per second and 540 GB / from propuskony capability. Thanks to the built-in data compression with coefficient to 3:1, Isilon F810 allows the organizations to lower requirements to "crude" capacity a flash array. A system provides to 33% more effective uses of unit of crude capacity of DWH, than storage system about a flash memory. At the corresponding increase in density of storage of F810 provides effective capacity to 2.2 PB on the chassis in body 4U and up to 79.6 PB on a cluster from 144 nodes. The solution of data storage with a high density can help to reduce the required area in a data processing center and the expenses connected with it, including the occupied space in DPC, costs for energy consumption and cooling.

According to the producer, the platform of storage Isilon F810 is easily integrated into the existing Isilon clusters. Integration is performed without interruption of work and without need to perform data migration manually.

The array works based on the operating room sistemyisilon with OneFS. Isilon F810, as well as other node types of the Isilon system it is possible to integrate in a uniform cluster of Isilon. Thanks to support of broad set of protocols, the organizations can consolidate data, eliminate inefficient storages, simplify management, support a broad spectrum of applications and workloads on one platform of storage. It also allows to use powerful technologies of analytics to disclose values of the capital of data. For resource optimization of storage and a bigger cost reduction the Isilon platform supports the automated multilevel data storage (tiring) and integration into cloud environments with a possibility of the choice of service providers of public and private cloud storages, emphasized in Dell EMC.

2013: Support of drives 4TB volume

On February 25, 2013 EMC announced expansion of opportunities of the most advanced scalable network systems of data storage EMC Isilon — now the NAS systems will be supported by drives 4TB volume. The last updates of Isilon X-Series and NL-Series expand advantages of horizontally scalable solutions of NAS to archived data storage even more: usability, high scaling of capacity and performance, automated management and independent failure handling. New opportunities allow to scale one volume EMC Isilon to the 20th petabyte. As a result storage capacity in each rack increases by 33%, and energy consumption decreases by 30%.

The enterprises from the most different industries look for more effective and economic methods of the organization and administration of the big and quickly growing information repositories. Rapid growth of file data increased the need for the high-scalable and effective solutions for archived data storage corresponding to business politicians, the legislation and requirements of regulators in a public sector, health care, media and show business. These factors have paramount value in the different industries therefore the need for effective and economic disk solutions for archiving never before was so high.

All information placed in EMC Isilon archive is controlled through operating environment of OneFS which optimizes and protects an information stream in the organization. Customers get these advantages, without sacrificing performance of applications or special data protection required for long-term storage of archives when using applications of archiving of EMC or other vendors.

EMC Isilon also provides higher fault tolerance when scaling, accelerates recovery process in case of refusal of drives, reliably protects data and has the performance indicators, best in the industry. The powerful scalable cluster architecture of Isilon allows to recover active and contemporary records in case of refusal of the drive much quicker, than the traditional systems – it is less, than in one day while the majority of the traditional systems will need for this purpose several days or even weeks. The system of data protection EMC Isilon N+4 on the basis of distribution at the level of the FlexProtect™ files helps customers to reduce risk of data loss and to increase the general availability even with a growth of a cluster. As data archives become more, the importance of these factors in proportion grows, and EMC Isilon is easily scaled from terabytes to petabytes.

The possibility of support of drives up to 4 of Tb provides high capacity of storage on the same square, providing at the same time utilization coefficient, standard for Isilon, 80% are higher. For example, storage capacity in one rack is 1440 Tb for NL400 nodes now – 360 Tbytes more on the same square. With drives 4 of Tb customers need less nodes to achieve the same indicators of the general capacity. With drives on 4 Tb only seven NL400 nodes instead of ten NL400 nodes with drives on 3 Tb will be required to reach the same basic capacity in 1 petabyte.

The solution Isilon of EMC is the file system of storage capable to store from tens Terabyte to tens Petabyte of data. It represents a cluster of nodes which at the same time contain disk capacity, computing powers (CPU, memory) and input/output ports. Optimal work can be reached due to combination of nodes of a different configuration in one system. Such DWH perfectly is suitable for storage and processing of a photo of high resolution, video, medical pictures, results of geological developments. Besides, a system provides data access under protocols the Internet (http/https), so, can process requests of external users directly. For example, it can provide access to all media content of the portal according to direct references, having unloaded thus the Web server. In addition to a web, data are available under standard file protocols of CIFS/NFS/FTP. There are also pleasant additions, in particular, with iSCSI. It is the block protocol, necessary if, for example, the customer company purchased the Isilon system, but does not want to implement additional block DWH - and the server needs to provide a part of data at the level of blocks, for example, under the system of virtualization. Besides, a system is integrated with the main services of authentication: at the appeal to DWH additional authorization is not necessary. Today users got used that, using Windows account, it is possible to work in any system: Isilon gives such opportunity too.

2012: Possibility of expansion to 15 PBytes

For November, 2012 the EMC Isilon system extends up to 15 PBytes and above in the single file system and uniform volume, providing thus the maximum scaling for storage of Big Data. It is especially relevant for the companies making and extending content of high resolution and showing therefore more and more strict requirements to the capacity and system performance of storage and also availability of huge volumes of video content.

The cluster architecture of EMC Isilon allows to increase seamlessly from the minimum, three-nodal configuration a system as required almost indefinitely. At the same time every time the capacity, performance and the number of connections will increase with guarantee. This feature of the EMC Isilon system gives the chance at the initial stage of implementation to avoid considerable expenses on start of new information services.

Advantage of EMC Isilon is return to simple architecture of NAS instead of difficult and expensive SAN architecture which requires creation of an optical network and purchase of licenses of clustered file system (for example, StorNex).

2011: Possibility of the choice of configurations

For April, 2011 the hardware platform of Isilon allows customers to select from the whole range of configurations, including systems with solid state drives (SSD) with the Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) or Serial ATA (SATA) interfaces and to combine them in uniform globally coherent cache. At the same time quad-core processors of the next generation optimize a ratio "the price – performance" for acceleration of access to Big Data.

The Isilon OneFS 6.5 operating system uses these hardware innovations and implements advanced functionality of a corporate class for accomplishment of business and critical transactions in the data processing centers (DPC), and the software of Isilon SyncIQ 3.0 considerably improves directive terms of recovery (Recovery Point Objectives, RPO), providing the protection of large volumes of data which does not have analogs.
