Product
Developers: ESRI
Last Release Date: 2014/12/15
Technology: GIS - Geographic information systems

ArcGIS for Desktop Standard is the desktop product of the ArcGIS family having necessary tools for work with geographical information.

A system is ready:

  • create and edit data,
  • make out and publish cards,
  • create requests and analyze information.

There are three levels of functionality of a product:

  • ArcGIS for Desktop Basic (ArcView),
  • ArcGIS for Desktop Standard (ArcEditor)
  • ArcGIS for Desktop Advanced (ArcInfo).

Main Functions

Space analysis

As a part of ArcGIS for Desktop hundreds of tools for carrying out the space analysis. They help to turn the obtaining new information given in a source, to optimize the solution of a set tasks GIS, for example:

  • Calculation of density and distance
  • Accomplishment of statistical analysis
  • Analysis of imposing (overlay) and proximity

Data management

Supporting more than 70 formats, a system will help to integrate with the project diverse data for display and the subsequent analysis. Tools for creation, the organizations and managements of space, tabular, descriptive information give a considerable range of opportunities:

  • search of geographical information
  • creation, viewing and management of metadata
  • optimization of schemes of bases of geodata
  • mapping and visualization

Creation of quality cartographic products without the need for use of specialized programs for graphic design. ArcGIS for Desktop Standard is available:

  • library of reference designations
  • the ready templates of cards which are easily configured under your tasks
  • collection of additional elements for design of cards

Expanded editing

ArcGIS for Desktop Standard provides simple and fast creation, editing data. A large number of additional tools and settings will help with the solution of specialized tasks, for example, at simultaneous change of several objects, exact geometrical constructions, detection and solution to the conflicts between objects. Support of multi-user editing helps to configure workflow in the organization, to provide access to the same data at once for several departments.

Geocoding

Geocoding is used for the solution of a wide range of tasks – from simple data analysis and processing of the customer base before optimization of placement of a real estate and planning of business development paths. After geocoding of an address database, there is an opportunity to display all locations on the card, to reveal the existing interrelations and logic of space distribution. Sometimes for this purpose can be rather simple view of the card or uses of the analytical ArcGIS for Desktop Standard tools.

Cartographic projections

Supporting a large number of geographical coordinate systems and projections, ArcGIS for Desktop Standard will help to integrate data from diverse sources with the project. The built-in algorithms of recalculation guarantee accuracy at display and editing initial data, carrying out calculations and the analysis, creation of cards.

Images

ArcGIS for Desktop Standard provides different options of work with images (raster data). They can be predsatvlena as a background (substrate) for thematic vector layers, be used in the space analysis. Additional setup of display of sets of raster data, creation of mosaics is supported.

Data exchange

Possibilities of a cloud platform of ArcGIS Online are available also to users of ArcGIS for Desktop Standard. Starting with version 10.0, possibilities of ArcGIS Online are available to the user directly from ArcMap:

  • connect basic cards,
  • find data,
  • publish the card for all comers or the specified user group.

Customization

The user interface is easily configured according to tasks and preferences of users:

  • add/delete buttons, menu items,
  • change placement of windows and toolbars.

It is possible to add additional functionality by means of development of superstructures. Create own desktop GIS-applications - using ArcGIS Engine which is a part of a subscription of EDN.
