2019: Time cut-outs with electronic PXR releasers

The Eaton company provided on March 13, 2019 the updated series of the low-voltage time cut-outs NZM. According to the producer, the provided devices are more easy-to-work and are more functional thanks to use of electronic Power Xpert Release (PXR) releasers which give ample opportunities for connection and a set of the built-in measuring functions. It will help producers of systems and the equipment to reduce costs for implementation. At the same time additional functions — such as the integrated Arcflash Reduction Maintenance (ARMS) system and logical selectivity — provide high protection of people and the equipment. The provided NZM will become available in the second quarter 2019.

As noted in Eaton, the PXR technology allows operators to be connected directly to the time cut-out from any notebook via the USB connector. Free software of Power Xpert Protection Manager (PXPM) simplifies an information access, to change of settings and monitoring of protective functions of the distributor. Therefore even without the external test equipment it is possible to check a configuration of security prefixes, work of functions of protection and operability of the releaser. In addition, using software operators can model any current and automatically compare shutdown time depending on the selected vremyatokovy characteristic. The program writes all results of tests and creates the report with time stamps in a type, suitable for printing. The indicator of service life helps to provide timely maintenance and replacement of the device in case of need. Each digital NZM device keeps the expanded event log (to 200 records).

According to the statement of the producer, in all time cut-outs NZM electricity metering function is also implemented. The measurement error of current and tension makes 0.5%. Such accuracy allows to carry the device to metering devices of the electric power of the 1st class according to the IEC 61577-12 standard thanks to what the user will obtain exact data for energy management. Operators can also transmit all data or through the built-in Modbus protocol, or through the Profibus or Ethernet add-on module. From unauthorized changes the device is password-protected.

For ensuring the maximum protection of people the time cut-out NZM can be equipped with the system of unhooking at emergence of an arc — Arcflash Reduction Maintenance System of production of Eaton company. Reducing shutdown time, this system at the same time minimizes energy of arc short circuit. If the solution Eaton Arcon is in addition used, any arc can be completely extinguished during 2 ms. The built-in function of logical selectivity (ZSI) helps to configure hierarchical selectivity for power distribution in installation, claim in Eaton.

According to information for March, 2019, time cut-outs in the cast body of the NZM series with support of current to 1600 A are available in several versions: with basic functionality (AX), with advanced functionality (MX, VX) and in the maximum complete set with the built-in counter of the electric power (PX, PMX). Also Eaton offers the additional version with a possibility of shutdown of short-circuit currents to 70 kA. Besides, the releaser tuning range on an overload was expanded and makes from 40% to 100% of rated current.
