2020: EcoStruxure Building Operation 3.1

On May 14, 2020, Schneider Electric announced the release of EcoStruxure Building Operation 3.1, an update to its building management system. Features and capabilities include improved data access, simplified installation and deployment, enhanced cybersecurity, and support for the EcoStruxure Building Engage mobile application.

EcoStruxure Building Operation

Support for mobile applications and development tools:

  • EcoStruxure Building Engage is a free mobile application available on Google Play and Apple App Store that allows the user to control the temperature, fan speed of the system, lighting system and curtains or blinds directly from the smartphone. The application works in conjunction with RP-C (Room Purpose Controller) controllers.
  • Automated Engineering Tool is an automated development tool designed to improve the quality and speed of design through the creation of templates and their subsequent use in system development, compatible with EcoStruxure Building Operation 3.1.
  • Project Configuration Tool, a standalone platform that allows you to configure the solution and server architecture in a virtual environment to simulate system deployment from the office without the need for physical access to equipment and a site visit, is also compatible with EcoStruxure Building Operation 3.1, Schneider Electric emphasized.

According to the developer's statement, as part of the development of functionality to provide end users with more information and simultaneously simplify "communication" with the system, additional functions are implemented:

  • Simplify license activation - Activating an Enterprise Server license automatically activates it on all connected controllers. There is no need to activate on each controller, which greatly saves time and simplifies system configuration.
  • Quick access to trends and parameters: in the presented version, the trends and parameters for which they are responsible can be viewed directly from the alarm menu.
  • Improved user interface with additional customization options: dark mode interface, optimizing the font and icons for easy display on various devices, the ability to select system-wide main menu colors to meet corporate organization standards selection of parameters display in international or local measuring systems, possibility to make entries in the log manually (for example, for equipment not connected to the system), and much more.

According to the developer, cybersecurity can become one of the key factors in choosing a building management system. Following increasing user requests, the following features were added:

  • Change control function: you can configure a "digital signature" - if you need to make changes, you will need to specify your login and password, as well as the reason for the changes.
  • Failed Attempts Alarm - The authentications number of attempts can be set on the system.
  • Password reset function without the need for physical access to the server.

To speed up system deployment:

  • Support for multiple versions and architectures with the ability to update only those parts of the system that will use the new features.
  • Support for user settings when the user can use the configuration specified administrator without the need for self-configuration.
  • Add a group of objects instead of having to add one at a time.

As of May 2020, EcoStruxure Building Operation 3.1 is available worldwide. For customers already using EcoStruxure Building Operation version 3.0 or higher, upgrading to 3.1 is free.

2014: StruxureWare Building Operation v1.5

On July 17, 2014, Schneider Electric announced the release of StruxureWare Building Operation v1.5.

As part of the version of the scaling update, increased computer protection, means of effective engineering, transition from the Satchwell Sigma platform, expansion of communication protocols, product registration, support for additional Microsoft products.

SmartStruxure provides support for large building management systems with up to 250 Automation Servers per Enterprise Server - up to double the scalability of previous versions.

This release includes an updated Architectural Guidelines 1.5 document that contains scaling and engineering considerations. This document provides more detailed (and updated) information about the system and allows you to better understand the design methods of the SmartStruxure solution for specific objects.

Version 1.5 introduces a number of new advanced information security capabilities; some of them allow you to perform operations on objects:

  • Change the admin password to a non-default password; otherwise, an alarm warning is automatically generated.
  • Enable and set automatic logoff timers to prevent unauthorized persons from accessing.
  • Loading certificates to implement communication using HTTPS to ensure secure communication because unsecured HTTP communication is no longer allowed.
  • Move to the latest SNMPv3-based network monitoring (not supporting unprotected versions of SNMP v1 and v2) and more.

StruxureWare Building Operation v1.5 includes several effective tools, for example, the implementation of a Project Configuration Server (PCS), which allows you to perform autonomous engineering, that is, engineering and configuring the project offline. Programming automation servers and enterprise servers offline saves time and reduces costs. Projects made can be opened on online servers. Once deployed, changes must be made to the active site.

Version 1.5 provides the software support required to migrate Satchwell Sigma customers to SmartStruxure. It includes support for data conversion (for example, point files, log configs, networks) and object expansion by adding SmartStruxure software and hardware to an existing Satchwell Sigma object. Moving customers to SmartStruxure minimizes risk, minimizes downtime, and minimizes the overall cost of upgrading site systems.

Product registration is a new feature implemented in v1.5 that is part of the SmartStruxure Solution Connect project. It collects basic information about the product, as well as data on where it is installed and by whom it is used. Product registration is a common feature used when purchasing software and expensive products. Schneider Electric has created a web portal where company partners, affiliates and end users can enter the requested information.

"The main objective of the SmartStruxure Solution Connect project is to make building engineering network management services an integral part of our products. In phase one, the building blocks of the type "where the object is located" and "what is in it" are formed. Over time, we will move on to the next stages of the SmartStruxure Solution Connect, which will allow us to collect more data about our products, including metrics, models, software/firmware versions and, ultimately, diagnostic and performance information. This will allow our branches and partners to offer high-quality proactive and personalized services to our customers, "said Ulyana Nemova, Head of Marketing at Schneider Electric
