Update of unmanned vehicles localization mode

On November 21, 2025, the Russian developer of unmanned vehicles and fifth-generation autopilot EvoCargo presented an updated autonomous localization mode integrated into the autopilot system. The update allows the company's self-driving trucks to continue driving autonomously accurately and safely in conditions where standard lidar localization can be difficult.

Localization is one of the key autopilot technologies responsible for determining the position of a vehicle in the environment and building its safe route. The most accurate and reliable information for localizing transport is formed by lidars - sensors that use laser pulses to create a three-dimensional representation of the environment. The system compares what the lidar "sees" in real time with a pre-built map of the area. By means of this matching, the algorithms continuously calculate the position of the vehicle, similar to how a person navigates familiar objects in space. Most lidars mounted on autonomous EvoCargo trucks work, with a frequency of 10 Hz, which allows you to scan space 10 times per second.

In addition to lidars, the "picture of the world" of the truck is also based on data from other sensors, including measuring units (accelerometers and gyroscopes), path and speed sensors and satellite GNSS receivers. However, in some conditions, lidars do not have enough objects for stable reading - for example, in open fields, forests, tunnels or along the same type of fences.

The technological innovation developed by EvoCargo expands the capabilities of autopilot in autonomous mode in zones without constant lidar localization. Algorithm updates allow transport to reliably localize itself and continue moving using only GNSS data (if available) and other sensors. Among the developers of unmanned vehicles, EvoCargo is one of the few who have implemented an original technological solution.

The updated system has already been implemented on hundreds of Evocargo autonomous trucks.

Optimizing Autopilot

EvoCargo"" September 23, 2025 presented updated, algorithms autopilot expanding the capabilities of the autonomous. transport Thanks to them, unmanned trucks are able to confidently work in conditions with urban traffic density.

Autopilot always makes decisions based on a set of equivalent factors: traffic rules, road signs and the current situation on the road, forecasts of the actions of other road users. The current update significantly increased the scan range, increased the depth of trajectory prediction, and expanded the system's decision-making capabilities in a challenging environment. Algorithms take into account more and more conditions and processes, creating a holistic model of the road environment.

In particular, attention was paid to differentiating oncoming and associated traffic flows, prioritizing lanes, analyzing traffic signs, predicting the behavior of surrounding dynamic objects and maneuverability. The improved autopilot allows for safer and more stable use of self-driving trucks.
