2020: Start in Russia

In the middle of August, 2020 Facebook Pay became available in Russia., As reported on the website of the company, the payment service allows:

  • Send money  to friends;
  • Buy games  and in-game content;
  • Do donations  on charity or the personal purposes;
  • Buy and sell things in  Facebook Marketplace  and  groups;
  • Buy tickets  for actions;
  • Advance an action, goods or the company using  advertizing on Facebook;

Add payment information  for shopping and  browse the history of payments. 


The Facebook Pay payment system earned in Russia

For this purpose it is necessary to link the bank card or PayPal.  As currency  the Russian ruble is by default set, but it is possible to use also other available currencies. In  a personal account all history of transactions is visible, in the same place it is possible to create regular payments according to the schedule In  service it is possible to secure intra network currency of Facebook Stars.

In the product description it is specified that  enciphering is applied to protection of payments and data for an input. Does not provide other information safety of service in the Russian-language section.

Facebook works with bank cards of MasterCard and Visa, at the same time, whether the social network will take the commission at payment of purchases and to support foreign currency, by August 14, 2020 it is not known. Facebook did not make official public statements concerning work of the project yet.

An opportunity to send and receive money using Facebook Pay in WhatsApp  became available to the first in Brazil in 2020 earlier. Individuals, and owners of small business can transfer funds both. For example, it is possible to consult with representatives of a brand directly in a chat and at once to pay goods. From users of WhatsApp of the commission does not take, however the service charge for receiving payments is levied from the companies.[1]

On November 12, 2019 Facebook provided own payment system which is intended for users of services Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram.

By means of the new solution which received the name Facebook Pay, users will be able to transfer money, to give them on charity and to make purchases on social network Facebook.

The new payment system will support PayPal and the majority of credit and debit cards. Payments will be processed in partnership with PayPal and Stripe. The company noted that Facebook Pay is not connected with a purse of Calibra and the Libra cryptocurrency.

Affirms that Facebook Pay will help to make payments safer by data encryption of maps and bank accounts and also by means of the system of the company for tracking of cyberfrauds. For additional protection of Facebook suggests users to add the biometric data (for example, a fingerprint) or the password, reminding that it has no access to such information and does not store it on servers.

At the first stage Facebook Pay will appear in the USA and only in Facebook applications and Messenger. The payment system can be used for fund raising, money transfer between users, purchases of tickets for actions, purchases in games and in some shops cooperating with Facebook Marketplace. Later (exact terms are not called) the service will earn in Instagram and WhatsApp, and not only in the USA.

For activation of a payment system it is necessary to take place on the page of settings in the application or on the website of Facebook. In the same place it is possible to select a payment method, preferable to it, and every time not to enter payment information. Before beginning to use Facebook Pay, to service it is necessary to link the bank card, by analogy with the Apple Pay and Google Pay Simplifying Payments with Facebook Pay[2]
