2023: Car Announcement
At the end of June 2023, the Chinese automaker GAC, operating in Russia, presented its flying electric car. The model was called GOVE.
According to Nikkei, the novelty combines a passenger drone and a special four-wheeled chassis for moving on roads. At any time, the drone and landing gear will be able to separate to enter flight mode. As conceived by the developers, the chassis can be controlled remotely and sent for recharging to a special station in the city.
It is assumed that the vehicle will move on the ground and in the air autonomously, that is, the passenger will not be able to independently control the device. A monitor and voice control will be available to the owner during the trip to select a route.
As of the end of June 2023, GAC has already conducted a trial flight of a flying electric car with a passenger. At the same time, the estimated price of the device and the timing of its appearance on sale remain unknown.
The GAC noted only that the commercialization of the project "will probably take a long time." In China, by the end of June 2023, the rules for the use of drones with passengers have not yet been legally approved, although drones are actively used in agriculture and for taking photos and videos.
Hyundai Rolls-Royce,,, and Volkswagen Airbus other large companies have invested in the development of flying machines. However, before their mass implementation, it is necessary to solve many technical and legal problems. According to Hyundai forecasts, intra-city air transportation of passengers is still just around the corner: they may become available by the end of the decade.
GAC expects increased demand for flying cars in southern China, where major cities like Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macau are clustered close to the sea and the vast river delta.[1]
