2023: Repository Launch
On November 23, 2023, the government India announced the launch of the so-called Global Digital Public Infrastructure Repository (GDPIR). This is a specialized database for the exchange of digital state projects between countries.
The GDPIR project is implemented by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of India (MeitY). The repository includes the source codes of applications that various states use as part of their digital public infrastructures. It is assumed that using already tested solutions, other countries will be able to accelerate the creation and implementation of new services at the state level.
As of the end of November 2023, India itself made the largest contribution to filling the repository, providing 12 projects. This is followed Oman France by nine and five projects, respectively. All available resources are divided into categories, which include digital identification, agriculture, payment systems, data exchange health care , and education. These solutions will help governments digitalize all kinds of services.
In addition, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the creation of the Social Impact Fund (SIF), in which the country will invest $25 million in the first stage. The project is conceived as a multilateral government-led initiative aimed at accelerating the development of digital public infrastructure in selected regions. The fund will offer financial support to countries that digitalize at the state level. It is about providing both technical and non-technical assistance. The new organization provides a platform for contributing funds to support low- and middle-income countries. All stakeholders can participate in the initiative, including other governments, international organizations and charitable structures.[1]
