2019: Work on Track AI creation

On March 29, 2019 the HUAWEI company reported that it together with the leading medical research organizations will apply the expert knowledge in the field of artificial intelligence to preserving of sight of children. HUAWEI together with Medical research institute of Aragon (IIS Aragon) and DIVE Medical works on creation of the Track AI system. This solution based on artificial intelligence is created for diagnostics of early signs of deterioration in sight at children.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 19 million children in the world have visual impairments, but from 70 to 80% from them can be prevented or cured. In most cases, such children for years do not diagnose that can lead to serious deterioration in their sight and affect their general development, education and socialization. Less serious and easily preventable types of deterioration in sight as of March, 2019 affect 12.8 million children.

For detection of visual impairments on computer HUAWEI Matebook E the software of DIVE is started (Devices for an Integral Visual Examination, Devices for complete check of sight). With its help reaction of each eye of the patient to the special irritants created for testing of different aspects visual of functions is monitored. Then collected data about a visual model of the patient are processed on smartphone HUAWEI P30 with the help algorithm HUAWEI HiAI for recognition of indicators of potential problems with sight.

Huawei Track AI

Using the HUAWEI P30 smartphone and technology of HUAWEI HiAI within the Track AI project the portable and available solution for identification of problems with sight at children at the earliest stage, aged from six months is created simple in use. Eventually, a task in that people without special preparation could reveal at children of a problem with sight and quickly begin treatment, noted in HUAWEI.

According to HUAWEI, children with problems of sight have other model of visual sensation in comparison with children with normal sight. The DIVE systems are capable to collect data on look provision at reaction to the visual irritants developed by scientists. The analysis and interpretation of such data — very difficult task for health workers without special preparation. However by means of artificial intelligence computers it is possible to teach to distinguish abnormal reactions and by that to simplify survey and diagnosis that will accelerate process of transition from diagnostics to treatment.

Huawei Track AI

The solution Track AI is constructed on the basis of opportunities open software platform Google TensorFlow and technology of HUAWEI HiAi. It allowed to create a system machine learning on the smartphone with processor Kirin 980 — the powerful computing system with artificial intelligence. Double neuromodule the Kirin 980 processor provides support of artificial intelligence and accomplishment of intellectual functions directly in the smartphone. It accelerates work and provides confidentiality of data of the user. The double neuromodule helps artificial intelligence of the smartphone to be improved gradually and by that to increase performance and efficiency of use of the device. The solution TrackAI on the basis of the smartphone is portable, does not require connection to Wi-Fi and collects data in real time that accelerates diagnostics. Possibilities of the HUAWEI smartphone allow to use TrackAI worldwide, claim in HUAWEI.

According to the statement of the developer, after the first tests the project will be widely adopted. Development of the system based on artificial intelligence requires collection of data on a research of thousands of children. This information for March, 2019 gathers in the research centers of five countries on three continents (China, Mexico, the UAE, Spain and Great Britain). After obtaining rather large volume of data training of neural networks, then, in 2019 will be executed, the device prototype will be released. In 2020 start of production of devices which will help physicians to diagnose and correct problems with sight at early stages of emergence is planned.
