2021: Implementation of facial recognition system in Hyundai Genesis

In mid-September 2021, Hyundai announced the introduction of Face Connect facial recognition into its Genesis premium cars. The technology involves access to the vehicle and its functions without a traditional key.

The basis of Face Connect is an infrared camera that recognizes the owner of the car. The latter only needs to look at the camera, and she herself will send a signal to the system, which will open all the locks, unlock the ignition and steering column.

According to the developers, the biometric scanner will be able to recognize faces in any weather and in the dark. You will not need a smart key: Face Connect will be able to open and close the machine. This is convenient, for example, when playing sports or swimming, when it is not protected from impacts and moisture, and also it is inconvenient to take a rather large key with you.

It will be possible to register no more than two people for one car, for each of which a separate profile is created with the settings of the steering wheel, seat, projection display, mirrors and "multimedia" - the machine will automatically adjust all this by "recognizing" the face. In this case, biometric data will be stored in encrypted form, and if necessary, they can be easily removed from the database.

The first car with the Face Connect feature was the Genesis GV60 electric crossover. In addition to the facial recognition system, the novelty received a number of other noticeable innovations. Among them is an improved update of the car's software "by air": if earlier firmware for multimedia, projection display and dashboard was updated, now without wires it will be possible to receive software responsible for the operation of brakes, airbags, suspension, steering.

In addition, the Genesis GV60 has an unusual rotating sphere on the central tunnel and cameras with displays instead of side rear-view mirrors[1]
