IBM Endpoint Manager

The IBM company released at the beginning of 2012 the new product under the name of Endpoint Manager providing a single platform for control and protection of any client devices in corporate network the enterprise, including desktop PCs, notebooks and mobile devices, irrespective of their actual accessory. The release of this product is the answer to the growing number of the personal devices used for connection to office resources – this trend is called still by BYOD (Bring-Your-Own-Device – everyone comes with the device).

The new manager of protection of the client devices IBM Endpoint Manager is generally intended for control of the mobile devices working running operating systems iOS Android Symbian, Windows Mobile as well as Windows Phone. The main feature of the new IBM platform consists in a possibility of control not only office, but also personal terminals. It is remarkable that the RIM platform was not included in this list BlackBerry. Nevertheless, except mobile terminals, IBM Endpoint Manager covers notebooks, desktop PCs and servers.

Historically IBM Endpoint Manager comes from products of Big Fix company which the IBM company absorbed in 2010. Initially the products Big Fix offered control of servers, PC, road notebooks and point-of-sale terminals. The main difference of Endpoint Manager from the products Big Fix consists in support of mobile platforms. Using Endpoint Manager customers can selectively erase data from the stolen or lost devices and also to apply policies of usage of passwords and enciphering on devices. In addition new product of IBM allows to enter surely connection of all employees to corporate network through the virtual VPN private network, but not directly.

As representatives of IBM assure, IT administrators can quickly install a new product and begin remote inclusion the politician, search of potential risks of date leak and destruction of data on the compromised terminal units. The combination of the management tools using agency modules and work with e-mail allows to control completely both personal, and office devices. In particular, at a compromise it is possible to close immediately access to e-mail or to send the notification to the user of the device with instructions on further elimination of violations of the mode. Together with the declaration of Endpoint Manager release the IBM company announced merger of the Israeli private company Worklight making software for smartphones and tablets.
