2023: Start of Operation
At the end of September 2023, KamAZ announced the pilot operation of the Jupiter 30 unmanned dump truck and published a video in which it showed the movement of its vehicle.
Coal mines of the Kemerovo region were chosen as the place for the pilot launch of a self-driving truck. Testing one car will last about six months, after which it is planned to launch another 10 such cars.
Jupiter-30 is equipped with an 11.9 liter diesel engine with 450 hp. It acts as a generator - it charges traction batteries that power two electric motors. There is also a recovery system, it recharges batteries as the dump truck drives down the slope. The chassis is not only all-wheel drive, but also fully controlled - all wheels turn.
In space, the machine is oriented using lidars, ultrasonic sensors, radars, as well as a navigation system GPS/. GLONASS According to the developers, the sensors necessary for movement are on both sides, so Jupiter will be able to do without unnecessary maneuvers, which will save both time and fuel. The maximum carrying capacity of Jupiter 30 is 30 tons, the volume of the cargo platform is 21.5 m3.
In addition, an energy recovery system is provided for braking and driving down the slope of the quarry.
The dump truck has unique characteristics that have no analogues in the world. It is designed for mining using deserted technology... Distinctive features are the shuttle mode of movement, hybrid power plant, four-wheel drive and controllability of all bridges, - said in the Telegram channel of the Government of the Russian Federation.[1] |
2022: Announcement of an unmanned mining truck
At the end of June 2022, KamAZ presented an unmanned dump truck, which received the KAMAZ-6559 index and the name Jupiter 30. A vehicle deprived of a cab for a driver was created to transport loose rock or ore using deserted technology - without the presence of people in the dangerous area of operation of heavy trucks and excavators.
For independent work, Jupiter 30 was equipped with video cameras, 2D- and 3D lidars, ultrasonic sensors and radars with protection against dust, dirt and vibration. Also in the dump truck arsenal are GSM antennas GPSGLONASS and/navigation.
There are sensors necessary for movement on both sides, so Jupiter will be able to do without unnecessary maneuvers, which will save both time and fuel. In addition, an energy recovery system is provided for braking and driving down the slope of the quarry.
To improve performance, a shuttle mode of movement was implemented on the dump truck: after loading, the machine travels to the unloading site without turning, and after unloading, it travels in the opposite direction without additional maneuvers.
Jupiter 30 is equipped with a Kamaz inline-six engine with a displacement of 11.9 liters, which is paired with a generator. Four-wheel drive is carried out thanks to the use of two traction electric motors in the dump truck - one for each bridge. The car is capable of transporting cargo up to 30 tons in fully automatic or remote mode. At the same time, the speed of its movement is limited to 56 km/h.
The new car has a length of 8.8 m, a width of 3.7 m, a height of 3.5 m. Jupiter-30 is equipped with a 450-horsepower engine, an electromechanical transmission and a dump platform with a volume of 25 cubic meters.
By the end of June 2022, KAMAZ-6559 is undergoing landfill tests, after which the dump truck will be transferred to SDS-Ugol for trial operation in the Chernihiv section (Kemerovo Region).[2]
