2025: Product Announcement

In mid-August 2025, the Chinese company Kaiwa Technology, based in Guangzhou, announced the development of the first robot capable of carrying a child instead of a woman. The appearance of such a machine provoked a contradictory reaction from the public.

The robot is a humanoid with an artificial uterus filled with amniotic fluid. The fetus will receive nutrients through a special tube. Kaiwa Technology says the artificial uterus technology is at a mature stage of development and "needs to be implanted into the robot's abdominal cavity" so that the real person and the machine can interact with each other throughout the "pregnancy" period.

It is assumed that the appearance of the robot will partially solve the problem of a decrease in the birth rate in the PRC. The country's infertility rate is estimated to have risen from 11.9% in 2007 to 18% in 2020. In some cities, including Beijing and Shanghai, artificial and in vitro insemination are covered by health insurance to support childbearing in infertile couples. In addition, the advent of the robot can meet the needs of those who do not want to marry, but want to have children.

It is expected that the novelty will go on sale in 2026 at an estimated price of $14 thousand. Critics claim the device is "cruel to a fetus born without a connection to its mother" and that it is "completely contrary to human ethics." Proponents of the development, in turn, note that such a robot will help infertile couples and women who are frightened by the physical burden of pregnancy.
