Secret Photo Feature and Web Management Portal Support
According to an international study conducted by O + K specifically for Kaspersky Lab (autumn 2012), 13% of Russian users lost their smartphones as a result of loss or theft. And this figure in our country is higher than in Western Europe (8.9%) and North America (10.4%), but comparable to the global average (14%).
The expansion of the functionality in the fall of 2012 Kaspersky Mobile Security provides more reliable data protection when a smartphone is lost or stolen. So, the "Secret Photo" function is specially created to help the user identify the kidnapper. It will be indispensable if the owner of the device needs evidence that the tablet is stolen or used by outsiders. With the help of the front camera, the device imperceptibly takes a series of pictures at the moment when certain actions are taken with it - for example, pressing the screen. The photos are then uploaded to the Web Management portal, where they can be viewed by the owner of the smartphone.
The Web Management portal was created specifically to maintain communication with the device and its control in case of loss or theft. It allows you to remotely activate the Anti-Thief module: receive information about the location of the device using the built-in GPS receiver, block and delete data so that it does not fall into the wrong hands, as well as view photos taken using the Secret Photo function.
In the updated Kaspersky Mobile Security, the new "Secret Photo" function and the ability to support the Web Management portal are combined with the already "classic" methods of protection against loss and theft. It is still possible to control the device remotely by sending special commands via SMS, and the "SIM-Control" function will allow you to determine the number of the new SIM card inserted into the lost device by its new owner.
Kaspersky Mobile Security 10
In June 2012, Kaspersky Lab introduced a new version of Kaspersky Mobile Security, a mobile product for ensuring the security of smartphones on the Android platform. It is reported that new protections have become available in the solution, including the ability to block infected and phishing sites that attackers use to steal data.
According to the "Laboratory," the updated solution, along with traditional methods of countering malware, uses heuristic analysis and cloud technologies. The interaction of the application with the cloud security system increases the speed of response to the emergence of new malware and allows you to quickly update information about malicious sites. Additional protection is provided by a filter of unwanted calls and SMS, as well as a new web filter that allows you to block infected and phishing sites.
To protect against unwanted contacts, Kaspersky Mobile Security provides "white" and "black" lists of subscribers. The application ensures the inviolability of personal information, hiding from prying eyes the history of incoming and outgoing calls, SMS and records in the contact list. If necessary, you can configure the automatic protection of this information after a certain time or make it inaccessible remotely by sending an SMS with a command to your smartphone. The program can selectively erase any information stored in the device's memory, and, if necessary, perform a complete deletion of the data.
According to the data provided by the "Laboratory," Kaspersky Mobile Security significantly increases the chances of returning a lost or stolen device. So, having received an SMS with the appropriate command, the program can determine the location of the smartphone based on data received from the GPS module, base stations of the cellular communication or a nearby Wi-Fi network and transmit this information to the owner. If the attacker replaces the SIM card in the device, then the SIM control function will automatically block it and e-mail inform the legal owner of the new phone number.
Kaspersky Mobile Security Lite
As of January 2012, the "Lite Anti-Virus" function as part of Kaspersky Mobile Security Lite allows you to scan downloadable applications on demand using the "Cloud Scan" technology. This technology uses the Kaspersky Security Network (KSN) to provide a quick response to new threats. Kaspersky Mobile Security Lite users are advised to scan all installed applications using the Lite Anti-Virus function, which will achieve a high level of device security.
For comprehensive protection of mobile devices, Kaspersky Lab offers a paid version of the solution - Kaspersky Mobile Security. This product contains a wider set of options for blocking unwanted calls and messages, remotely controlling a smartphone in the event of its loss or theft, hiding confidential data from prying eyes and protecting against malware.
In particular, a fully functional antivirus module automatically scans all new applications, blocking detected malware. You can switch to Kaspersky Mobile Security directly from the interface of the free version of the product. In this case, all application settings are saved unchanged.
