2019: Announcement

In the middle of July, 2019 the Peloton Technology company which is based in Silicon Valley announced the automated control system of vehicles for economy of fuel and other resources. It allows one driver to manage two trucks, the following at a short distance at once.

Peloton Technology attracted investments in the amount of $78 million from BP Ventures, Intel Capital, Volvo Group and ten other venture and strategic investors. The company already offered a product under the name PlatoonPro which is used by six clients at cargo transportation. The advanced version received the name L4 Automated Follow and will be submitted on a symposium of Automated Vehicle Symposium 2019 to Orlando.

The management system for one driver for two trucks at the same time is provided

PlatoonPro is considered the system of the help to the driver of 1 level which requires presence of drivers both in the leader, and in the following truck. A system manages only transmission and brakes, providing exact following of trucks one after another and immediately reacting to acceleration or braking of the leading truck. Use of similar technology allows to save up to 7% of fuel and increases security.

The new L4 Automated Follow system assumes presence of the driver only in one truck, leading. A system provides communication between vehicles thanks to which the driver of the leading vehicle has access to steering of the following truck and also is capable to control its acceleration and braking with the minimum delay. At the same time a system supplies the driver with all necessary information, including warns about potential collision or automatic emergency brake application.

The L4 Automated Follow system passes internal test in the company, but will be submitted to potential clients soon, developers in the middle of July, 2019 promised.[1]
