LG's 2020 OLED TVs support HDMI VRR, making them compatible with more gaming devices such as video cards and consoles.
In addition to graphics, the variable refresh rate and fast response time allowed LG OLED48CXRLA TV to get an HDR Gaming Interest Group (HGiG) gaming profile. This means that gamers will be able to enjoy the graphics of console HDR games on their LG TVs.

Recall of defective TVs in Russia
In January 2021, the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology (Rosstandart) announced the recall of 4,009 LG TVs . Due to the marriage, the equipment may catch fire.
The service campaign affected the following models of TVs from the South Korean manufacturer:
- OLED65E6, OLED65G6, OLED77G6 produced in 2016;
- OLED65C7, OLED65E7, OLED65G7 produced in 2017;
- OLED77G7, OLED65W8 produced in 2018;
- OLED77C8, OLED77W8, OLED65W9, OLED77C9, OLED77W9 produced in 2019.
These televisions are subject to repair, including the replacement of old power boards with new ones. For users of faulty products, repair work will be carried out free of charge.
According to Rosstandart, the recall program was initiated due to a malfunction of some devices released in 2016 and 2017. In a number of devices, there were cases of overheating that caused damage to the power board or back cover. This interfered with the normal operation of TV. At the same time, during the examination, it was revealed that there was no risk of flame or fire spreading outside the TV.
What exactly can cause overheating of old boards, the company does not say. The company's website also says that "power supply boards contain elements that reduce the noise of the electrical current of the circuits inside the power supply board."
The Russian office of LG said that by January 11, 2021, there were no cases of overheating of these OLED TVs in Russia. However, the manufacturer decided to replace the power boards not only on TV models where problems were noted, but also on other models.
Owners of all potentially defective OLED TVs will be notified of the campaign using a pop-up notification when devices are connected to the Internet. Also, information about the repair is published on the official LG website.[1]

Recall of 9400 OLED TVs in Asia and Europe
At the end of September 2020, LG Electronics announced that it is voluntarily recalling a total of 9,400 OLED TVs that have entered the Asian and European markets. The company is promising to replace a power supply for defective products as it found it emitted excess heat. The service campaign affected a total of 13 models.
The manufacturer explained that the control of power supplies in some models does not work properly, which leads to excessive heat transfer. If the power supply through which the electric current passes overheats, the TV can turn off spontaneously, and its back panel partially blackens.
The company began recalling OLED TVs with heat dissipation problems back in July 2020 from Korea, but by the fall had found similar violations in products sold abroad and decided to expand the recall framework. In foreign countries, the recall will be carried out in agreement with the relevant regulatory authorities.
The problems in RTINGS OLED TVs were also reported by experts. They conducted testing that included 20 hours of work per day, with breaks between five-hour blocks and the launch of LG's proprietary Pixel Refresher pixel recovery function after each session (that is, four times a day). This playback mode was designed to simulate watching TV for five hours a day.
During testing, it turned out that different types of content cause different degrees of burnout. The worst thing for a TV is games and news, when logos, maps or other elements of a stable shape are constantly displayed on the screen at certain points on the screen. At these sites, artifacts manifest themselves the most.[2]
Recall of tens of thousands of defective OLED TVs from LG
July 21, 2020 it became known that LG Electronics is recalling about 60 thousand OLED TVs sold in South Korea. The company is going to replace their power boards, the incorrect functioning of which can cause overheating and fire.
The recall includes 18 different models of OLED TVs, which were sold between February 2016 and September 2019. The South Korean electronics manufacturer has already replaced the components of 22 thousand units, while 60 thousand units have problems.
The problematic components are located inside the power boards of OLED TVs, they are designed to reduce excessive current noise. LG said that some of the elements used in production showed a decrease in performance. This caused an increase in the voltage supplied to the device, which can eventually provoke overheating and fire.
Overheating is observed only in a small number of TVs of the presented models using this element of the power board, but for the safety of our customers, we are ready to provide a free replacement for all devices, added LG. |
The problem affected the following models:
- OLED65E6, OLED65G6 and OLED77G6 - 2016;
- OLED65B7, OLED65C7, OLED65E7, OLED65G7, OLED65W7, OLED77G7 и OLED77W7 - 2017 год;
- OLED65G8, OLED65W8, OLED77C8 and OLED77W8 - 2018
- OLED65W9, OLED77B9, OLED77C9 and OLED77W9 - 2019.
In addition, users have complaints about Samsung's Blu Ray players. The problem is that the devices enter an endless reboot cycle, and resetting to factory settings does not fix the failure. Among the defective devices are Samsung HT-J4550/XU, BD-JM51, HT-J4200/4500/5530, BD J5100/5700/5900, BD-JM57C, HT-J5500W, as well as other models of home cinemas, and Blu Ray players. The company is aware and is also addressing the matter.[3]
