2020: The announcement of the industrial robot of Morningstar for painting works
On October 28, 2020 the Lenovo company provided the first industrial robot of own development who received the name of Morningstar. Innovation, according to developers, uses the latest computing powers and artificial intelligence, allowing workers to perform precisely painting works in the remote mode using the robot.
The senior vice president and the technical director of Lenovo Group Rui Yoong explained that the robot is capable to scan and perceive all space of a workshop, and all data obtained from a stereocamera are created and displayed in real time on the virtual machine.
The acquired information is processed using an algorithm of simultaneous localization and map development, the server sends stream 3D - video in real time to the headset of augmented reality. Also support of networks of fifth generation (5G) is noted.
Managed by means of the AR headset of Morningstar performs processes on painting of parts using the sprayer. The sequence of the executed transactions remains on the peripheral server, in the future the industrial robot will be able to perform painting of similar type of parts already independently. Developers claim that Morningstar it is capable to control quality of spraying using computer vision in the automatic mode.
The technical giant did not disclose details concerning commercialization of Morningstar. This type of the robot can be used as handmade replacement on assembly lines, in limited working spaces, in dangerous, radiation environments, in workshops with high temperatures or pressure, on nuclear power stations, the robot of Morningstar is focused on reduction of risk of handwork.
Terms of the beginning of sales and the price of a product in Lenovo were not set.[1][2]
