2021: Start of the virtual telecom operator of Magnit Mobile
In the middle of January, 2021 Magnet announced start of own virtual mobile operator. It will work under the Magnit Mobile brand.

Magnit Mobile will be started in the pilot mode in the MVNO format in 2021 (more exact terms are not called). To the middle of January preparatory work, including process of obtaining the license are conducted. Testing of the mobile operator will begin with one of Russian regions.
The retailer already found the partner for this project, but does not reveal him yet, the representative of Magnet reported Interfax.
Earlier Vedomosti wrote what the partner of Magnet can become Tele2 whose communications infrastructure is used in many MVNO projects in Russia.
Large Russian retailers, in particular Auchan and X5 Retail Group, created virtual operators earlier, but projects were unpopular. The head of "TMT of consulting" Konstantin Ankilov in a conversation with Vedomosti said that Auchan – attracted about 200,000 subscribers, X5 Retail Group – about 100,000. The purpose of such products – not monetization, but creation of a new program item of loyalty and in a case with MVNO of Magnet will be the same story, the expert considers.
According to him, the operator at the retailer can expect several hundred thousands of subscribers. Audience of the operator – visitors of Magnet, those who constantly make purchases there. The retailer can offer them discounts or payment of cellular communication by the bonuses earned upon purchase of goods, Ankilov assumes.
Magnit Mobile will become a part of an ecosystem which is developed by Magnet. Earlier retail chain stores announced plans for creation of the superapplication which will integrate online orders of goods, payment and credit services and also non-financial services, including about partners of the company.[1]
