ManageIQ is the open platform for management of the cloud systems.
At the heart of the system of an operating time of ManageIQ company which was absorbed by Red Hat at the end of 2012.
In May, 2014 the Red Hat company announced formation of community ManageIQ for development of the open platform of management of the cloud systems. Further, the ManageIQ platform will develop as the open project in which development everyone can take part. Red Hat will save a role of the chief developer and will select considerable engineering resources for development of the project. AutoTrader Group, Booz Allen Hamilton, Chef and CiRBA companies intended to be connected to development.
ManageIQ provides means for management and automation of work of the hybrid cloud infrastructures combining the under control local cloud systems and external services. Tools are written in the Ruby language and provide means for deployment, management, monitoring and optimization of the cloud environments, virtual infrastructures and virtual desktops created using different cloud platforms including Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization/oVirt Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware vSphere.
Adaptation of ManageIQ for sharing with the OpenStack platform is planned.
ManageIQ provides abstraction from the control interfaces specific to different cloud platforms and provides the unified interface for management of applications and services. Including, ManageIQ provides tools for migration of an environment between the cloud systems and helps with management of services on certain cloud platforms, depending on different parameters:
- location,
- cost,
- requirements to performance, etc.
Using ManageIQ the administrator can quickly translate cloud environments from service in which vulnerability to other cloud provider who quickly fixed problems is not corrected yet.
Red Hat declared - components of cloud infrastructure should be open and not tied to vendor. For the embodiment in life of this vision, Red Hat intended to open a managing stack of ManageIQ. As the commercial product based on ManageIQ technologies Red Hat CloudForms will extend.

On December 10, 2015 the Red Hat company announced cross positive impact of the ManageIQ and Red Hat CloudForms projects.

ManageIQ integrates developers, service providers, system integrators, representatives of the academic environment and end users and the purpose are positioned by creation of the innovation unified platform of management for cloud environments. From the moment of release of the latest version of CloudForms the ManageIQ project received a number of significant additions from the participating organizations:
- Booz Allen Hamilton is the code for integration of ManageIQ with the open cloud broker Project Jellyfish who was provided in 2014 as the tool for more smart, simple and intuitive management of cloud services. Project Jellyfish formed a basis for the user interface of self-service in Red Hat CloudForms 4.
- Nuage Networks – the connected module CloudForms for management of software-defined networks of SDN, will be a part of the next version of CloudForms.
- Produban – IT department of Grupo Santander bank, considerably improved possibilities of the ManageIQ project on charge of costs and drawing of accounts.
