2024: Car Recall
On September 19, 2024, Mazda announced the recall of the MX-5 Miata sports cars. The identified problem can cause airbags to fire too hard even in the event of a minor traffic accident, as a result of which the driver and front passenger can be injured.
The official notification says that the defect is associated with flaws in the onboard. software Information about the problem has been sent to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (USA NHTSA).
During a minor collision or accident, an improper airbag operation with more force may occur instead of the one provided for by the specification, the Mazda website says. |
If passengers are not wearing seat belts, this can increase the risk of injury. As of the end of September 2024, there were no reports of accidents or harm to health caused by this defect. The defect affects approximately 77,670 2016-2023 MX-5 Miata vehicles. The automaker will contact the owners (including by e-mail) of these vehicles and notify them of the need to update the onboard software. All work, as noted, will be carried out free of charge for motorists.
Mazda estimates that all MX-5 Miata vehicles produced between now and November 2, 2023, could face the defect described. Machines that have rolled off the pipeline after the specified date use a properly calibrated sensor, and therefore no software update is required.
