Ford and Mazda recognized a marriage of 475 thousand cars. Airbags in them explode and kill
In mid-August 2024, Ford and Mazda warned owners of more than 475,000 older cars to have a dangerous marriage involving Takata airbags. Failure of superchargers can cause serious injuries and even death of passengers. The warning applies to more than 374,000 Ford, Lincoln and Mercury cars produced from 2004 to 2014 and nearly 83,000 Mazda cars produced from 2003 to 2015.
Takata inflators are known to use volatile ammonia nitrate to create a small explosion when inflating airbags in an accident. However, the eimic substance can degrade over time under the influence of high temperatures and humidity. As a result, in a collision, faulty Takata airbag superchargers explode, breaking a metal container and throwing out fragments that can seriously injure or kill people in the car. All these problems were identified earlier, but the repair of cars was not completed. It is known that due to faulty inflators in the United States alone, 27 people were killed in the accidents, and more than 400 people were injured. In total, at least 35 people were killed in Malaysia, Australia and the United States due to Takata airbags.
The airbag explosions sent Takata into bankruptcy. After identifying this dangerous fault, the largest series of car recalls in US history was launched, in which manufacturers had to replace at least 67 million airbags. However, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration notes that many of the vehicles have never been repaired, in particular older models.
Even minor accidents can cause Takata airbags to explode, which can kill or cause horrific injuries, the companies said in a statement. - The older the model, the higher the risk.[1] |

The firm plans to produce only machines with electric and hybrid propulsion systems. There is only one hybrid in the brand's lineup - the Axela hatchback version.
The company's management decided to take such a step in order to strengthen its position in the European market, as well as in connection with the widespread tightening of requirements for the environmental friendliness of engines and the amount of harmful emissions.
