2022: Device Announcement
On February 22, 2022, Medtronic announced that it had launched the InterStim X neuromodulation device on the market without recharging. With low energy levels, the device can last up to 15 years, the company said in a press release.
InterStim X and InterStim Micro are used to treat overactive bladder (HMA), chronic fecal incontinence (CNC), and non-constructive urinary retention. InterStim X uses the patented chemistry of the fifth generation battery, providing more than 10 years of battery life on a single charge, increasing freedom and reducing patient care costs.
The method of sacral neuromodulation involves the effect on the peripheral nervous system of low-pulse current through the implanted electrode and generator in order to restore the coordinated act of urination and emptying of the intestines in patients with the inefficiency or intolerance of other types of therapy. Main indications:
- impaired urinary function - refractory overactive bladder, non-structural urinary retention;
- intestinal function disorders - fecal incontinence, chronic constipation.
We aim to expand access to proven treatments for nerve stimulation with technological advances such as InterStim X and InterStim Micro. SureScan MRI technology and intelligent programmer, offers patients personalized treatment options and attracts them through consumer-oriented marketing. As we celebrate InterStim's 25th anniversary in 2022, we are optimistic about our next chapter in patient-centered therapy, "said Medtronic pelvic health president Mira Sahney. |
InterStim X, along with InterStim Micro, is equipped with the first and only intelligent programmer - a programming device that looks like a regular smartphone and allows patients to quietly and independently adjust 11 therapy parameters at home or when moving. The platforms include SureScan technology, which allows for full-body MRI scans in the 1,5T and 3T under certain conditions without the need for impedance testing.[1]
