2021: Announcement Memic Hominis - robot surgeon to remove uterus
In early March 2021, the Israeli company Memic introduced the first of its kind robotic surgical system for transvaginal surgical interventions, including hysterectomy without malignancies.
The Hominis system uses manipulators in the form of human hands to achieve greater safety of procedures. A workstation with intuitive controls allows you to maneuver surgical instruments with a 360-degree rotation. Flexibility comparable to human is maintained until the distal end of the instrument is controlled.
Each of the instruments mimics a human arm with shoulder, elbow, and wrist joints that can provide coordinated access to targeted locations inaccessible to conventional instruments. This is especially important in hysterectomy, which often has to be performed during open operations, and not transvaginally due to the complex anatomical features of the patient. At the same time, studies show that transvaginal hysterectomy provides optimal clinical benefits, including reduced severity of pain, faster recovery and reduced infectious complications. In addition, transvaginal access does not result in visible scarring, which is very important for many patients.
Although initially the system will only be used for hysterectomy, the Hominis platform can be effectively applied to other types of procedures. In addition, the company plans to add new functions based on artificial intelligence, which will expand the capabilities of the robot.
We are pleased to receive FDA De Novo approval to sell our Hominis system, which offers a compact and cost-effective option for less invasive operations than existing robotic tools, said Memic CEO Dvir Cohen[1] |
