Outlook Express

Outlook Express is the program for work with e-mail and news groups from Microsoft company.

Outlook Express is delivered as a part of operating systems of Windows starting with Windows 95 OSR 2.5, Windows NT and also together with the Internet Explorer browser, starting with version 4.0. There are also Outlook Express options for "classical" versions of Mac OS.

The name Outlook Express assumes that this program is the "facilitated" version of Microsoft Outlook — an organizer from Microsoft which also contains functions of work with e-mail. Actually, between these two programs of little general. Besides, Outlook, unlike Outlook Express, to version 2007 had no function of work with news groups.

History

Outlook Express is based on earlier software for e-mail and news — the packet of Microsoft Internet Mail and News delivered with Internet Explorer 3.0 (though the name of the program was changed to Outlook Express, the executable file is still called msimn.exe). The new version of Outlook Express delivered only together with Windows Vista is called Windows Mail. On May 30, 2007 Microsoft for the first time released the beta of the new Windows Live Mail e-mail client designed to replace Outlook. Further Windows Live Mail entered the Windows Live software package.

Outlook Express is inclined to a problem which can damage its files of the database, happens so that in one of folders messages cease to be displayed. Because of increase in number of the stored e-mail messages and databases during consolidation. Especially, when the database increases in sizes.

It is possible to correct a problem and to recover access to e-mail messages an easy way. Let's say all messages were gone in the folder Entering. For the solution of this problem the following actions are necessary:

• Right click on the folder Entering, we create the subfolder with any name, for example backup.

• Right click on the folder Entering, we select from the Find menu.

• We remove a tick from the Including parameter the enclosed folders.

• We tick off in parameter Received to.

• We click to Begin search

• In a window of search all messages of the folder Entering will be displayed.

• We select all messages (Ctrl+A).

• With right click is selected to Move to the folder.

• We select the created backup folder.

• We close a window of search and Outlook Express.

• In the conductor we open the folder with the Message store.

• We delete the file Entering. dbx.

• We start Outlook Express.

• We select all messages from the backup folder (Ctrl+A).

• We move them to the folder Entering.

• We delete the backup folder.
