Description of the program
The Windows mail with engl. Windows Mail is the program for work with e-mail and news groups delivered together with the Windows Vista operating system. Unlike the predecessor, the program Outlook Express, Windows Mail is not considered as the Internet Explorer component. With respect thereto the program will not be available to the previous operating systems just as Internet Explorer was made available to Windows XP.
Protocols
Windows Mail supports access to e-mail under protocols POP3 IMAP, SMTP and also work with servers of news on the protocol NNTP and access to directory services of LDAP. The supported authentication types: plain text and MD5 authentication.
Security
Possibilities of confidentiality and security are provided by support of standards of SSL/TLS for protection of traffic and also S/MIME for enciphering and the signature of letters, for this purpose third-party software can be also used. The Microsoft SmartScreen technology and also programs of third-party producers is applied to protection against spam. Also Windows Mail contains the built-in means for fight against a phishing and ability to integrate external anti-virus modules.
