2024: Product Announcement
On February 15, 2024, Amsterdam startup Monumental introduced an autonomous robot capable of performing brickwork without human intervention. It is expected that the emergence of such machines will help solve the problem of labor shortages, as well as increase the efficiency of construction work.
Monumental was founded in 2021. She sets herself the task of transforming the construction industry with the help of effective robots based on artificial intelligence, capable of building walls on their own. It is estimated that such machines can increase productivity by 50-60% compared to manual labor. Unlike humans, robots do not get tired and always perform operations with the same accuracy.
The Monumental platform provides for the use of an autonomous wheeled robot that brings bricks to the site of the wall. Next, a stacker robot comes into play, endowed with all kinds of sensors, a machine vision system and AI algorithms. This machine applies mortar and carefully places bricks according to the set plan.
As of mid-February 2024, Monumental has implemented a number of projects in the Netherlands. In particular, with the help of robots, the company erected a 15-meter facade of an office building. In addition, cooperation has been established with 25 construction contractors. The startup also announced a round of financing, during which $25 million was raised for development. The investment program was led by Plural and Hummingbird with input from Northzone, Foundamental, NP-Hard Ventures and Material Ventures. The funds received will help Monumental to increase the staff of specialists for the further development of the project: it is planned to expand the functionality of robots in terms of solving various problems and using different types of building blocks.[1]
