2023: Product Announcement

On February 24, 2023, Motorola, part of the Lenovo group, unveiled an accessory called the Motorola Defy Satellite. The gadget allows you to add satellite communication to any iPhone or smartphone with the Android operating system.

The Motorola Defy Satellite, developed in collaboration with Bullitt, can connect to a smartphone via Bluetooth and provides two-way text messaging using the Bullitt Satellite Messenger app.

According to the developers, the case has a hardware SOS button, it can be used without a connected smartphone nearby. This feature will allow you to quickly find out about an unexpected event, the device will send a message with your current location to your contacts selected in case of an emergency.

The versatile Bluetooth accessory, weighing just 70g, also allows users to report their location and contact emergency services if needed, the developers said. The device offers a physical SOS button and a "Check IN" button, and these functions can work even when a paired smartphone is not nearby. The device is equipped with a MediaTek Bullitt chip, a 600 mA·ch battery, supports GPS, Galileo, Beidou and GLONASS, Bluetooth 5.1, and is protected from water (IP68).

Motorola Defy Satellite has been tested according to the Mil-Spec 810H standard, which takes into account factors such as the behavior of the device during sharp temperature changes, resistance to vibration and humidity.

The gadget will go on sale in April 2023 for $99. A batch option from $149 will also be available, providing access to an annual subscription, in which users will receive up to 30 bilateral messages per month and SOS Assist. According to the developers, the cost of sending and receiving satellite messages is charged from the subscription plan, and the recipient does not need to pay anything.^[1]
