2017: Oracle Autonomous Database Cloud

Oracle Autonomous Database Cloud is completely self-governed autonomous database created based on Oracle Database 18c.

The algorithm of machine learning in Oracle Autonomous Database Cloud analyzes system event logs which contain information on everything that happens to networks, servers, OS, DWH, virtual machines, programs and also the systems of analytics and databases. Based on this material DBMS studies and afterwards it becomes capable to find independently in data and events of the phenomenon, deviating from regulation. Besides, she will be able to carry out classification of requests and automatic adjustment of the database.

Oracle Autonomous Database Cloud undertakes accomplishment of the following tasks of the administrator: resource allocation, setup, reservation, updating. The base is capable to do all this independently — it is only required to set politicians. Thus, in a circle of tasks of the administrator there are a design, access isolation, analytics and data protection.

2017: Announcement

At the beginning of October, 2017 the Oracle corporation announced creation of completely self-governed autonomous Oracle database of Autonomous Database Cloud. Formed a basis for development to Oracle Database 18c.

According to the chairman of the board of directors and the executive technology director of Oracle Larry Ellison, the self-governed database is the same revolutionary development, as well as the Internet. Thanks to the mechanism of machine learning Oracle Autonomous Database Cloud practically does not need administration and setup. Besides, it does not allow commission of errors by the person. In general the concept of work of self-governed base is similar to an auto pilot operation principle.

Capability reveal abnormal events should increase the level of security of DBMS, Ellison considers. At the same time, autonomous DBMS will manage to reveal and stop cyber attack or to apply patches, and without stopping system operations. It is expected that thanks to automatic optimization of caching, indexings, side-by-side execution, distribution and data compression autonomous DBMS will be less exacting to system resources, at the same time accomplishment of tasks of OLTP and data warehouses will accelerate. Availability of Oracle Autonomous Database Cloud is stated at the level of 99.995% that means no more than 30 minutes of failure to act a year.

Presumably, autonomous DBMS will begin work at the end of 2017 for a cloud service of Data Warehouse. Further other services, such as OLTP Database, Express Database and NoSQL Database will be connected. DBMS can be implemented on the Oracle Exadata platform at the client, in Oracle Cloud as a cloud service and also to build in Oracle Cloud at Customer.[3]
