2020: Availability of Oracle Autonomous Database on Exadata Cloud Customer in DPCs

On July 15, 2020 the Oracle company announced availability of the cloud autonomous Oracle database of Autonomous Database on Exadata Cloud Customer in data centers of clients on the Cloud of Oracle at the Client model. Updating integrates the latest version of Oracle Database and the database machine Oracle Exadata Database Machine and is provided as a cloud service in data processing centers of the client. Such model allows to exclude a capital expenditure and need of management of DBMS, providing elastic consumption and payment only for actually used cloud resources of the database. Now Autonomous Database can be started in client DPCs not only as separate service, but also as a part of wider cloud offer of Oracle Dedicated Region Cloud Customer — the private region of a public cloud of Oracle including all cloud services of Oracle and placed in data centers of clients.

Typical Deployment of Exadata Cloud at Customer

Oracle Autonomous Database on Exadata Cloud Customer offers an easy and fast method of transition to cloud model — typical time of deployment is less than a week. The applications which are already used in DPC can be connected and started without any changes, and data will not leave client DPC. This solution for the organizations which crucial loadings are not ready to move databases in a public cloud owing to the different reasons — need of ensuring sovereignty of data and observance of regulatory requirements, concerns concerning security and insufficiently high performance of network, or because of close integration of local applications and databases, consider in Oracle.

According to the developer, Oracle Autonomous Database on Exadata Cloud Customer will allow the organizations to use Wednesday in which all processes are autonomous and are controlled Oracle. There is an incomplete process list which will be automatically executed: deployment of the database, setup, clustering, protection against failures, elastic scaling, security and installation of corrections. Autonomous opportunities eliminate need to execute processes manually and reduce risk of human errors and also reduce costs, increase performance, raise the system of protection and provide higher availability. The Besserverny architecture is automatically scaled, adapting to the changing intensity of workloads, and, thus, the payment model in process of use is implemented.

"Oracle Autonomous Database on Exadata Cloud Customer combines possibilities of the Exadata X8M platform with functionality of the Oracle database based on machine learning technologies and a cloud environment of management of the second generation that provides all opportunities of the cloud database of the corporate level in the local environment. At each company the set of appendices from different software suppliers and applications of own development for support of all activities — from finance before production, HR, orders, purchases and transactions is had. For the companies which seriously consider accomplishment of such applications, critical for business, on the Oracle platform in the cloud database placed locally of Oracle Autonomous Database on Exadata Cloud Customer there is an optimal solution",

'Karl Ulofson, the vice president of IDC for researches on the direction of the software of data management noted'

Using Oracle Autonomous Database on Exadata Cloud Customer clients will be able to consolidate thousands of databases and to start the convergent, open Oracle database of Database for work with different data types and different workloads, such as machine learning, JSON, columns, geodata, IoT and processing in memory, and thus to refuse deployment of the fragmented specialized databases. Thanks to Oracle Autonomous Database on Oracle Exadata Cloud Customer of the organization will be able to start bigger databases by 7 times, to provide higher level of their consolidation, to increase performance of input-output operations for requests of SQL by 12 times and capacity of requests — by 10 times and also to lower by 98% a delay of the transactions SQL in comparison with RDS on AWS Outposts. Oracle Autonomous Database on Exadata Cloud Customer reduces the volume of work on infrastructure management and the database by 90% as customers can focus on work with the schemes and data which are contained in the database and not to spend time for service of its core infrastructure, claim in Oracle.

In addition to expansion of the offer Cloud Customer ("A cloud of Oracle at the client") Oracle also continues to supplement functionality of the autonomous Oracle database of Autonomous Database. The corporation announced certification of business applications Oracle Siebel, PeopleSoft and JD Edwards for work on Oracle Autonomous Database. Using Autonomous Database users of Oracle Siebel, PeopleSoft and JD Edwards will be able to reduce costs and at the same time to strengthen protection and also to increase performance and availability of systems. Besides, the company submitted Oracle Autonomous Data Guard — the computer-controlled solution for ensuring high availability and disaster recovery which protects the organization from significant failures. Oracle Autonomous Data Guard provides almost zero data loss (RPO) and instant recovery (RTO) at critical failures of systems, emphasized in Oracle.

In addition the Oracle company announced the following functional changes in Exadata Cloud Customer:

  • Oracle Exadata Database Machine X8M combines a non-volatile memory of Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory and 100-gigabit direct remote access to memory (RDMA) on a convergent Ethernet network (RoCE). This technology allows to eliminate bottlenecks in storage system and to optimize processings of intensive loadings, such as accomplishment of transactions in real time (OLTP), Internet of Things, identification of fraud and high-frequency trade. Direct access of the database to the total non-volatile memory allows to achieve peak capacity in 12 million read operations per second at requests of SQL that is 2.5 times more, than when using the proposal of the previous generation based on Exadata Database Machine X8. Besides, Exadata X8M reduces a delay at accomplishment of crucial input-output operations in the database — delays of remote input-output operations make no more than 19 microsec that is 10 times faster, than in the system of the previous generation. With such ultralow delays even those loadings which require accomplishment of millions of input-output operations per second are executed;
  • several clusters of VM on Exadata rack. This opportunity allows the organizations to use Exadata for the different purposes (commercial operation, disaster recovery, development and testing) and at the same time to provide isolation during the work with data for different departments and scenarios of use;
  • PCI-DSS certification. Exadata Cloud Customer supports the Standard of data security of the industry of payment cards and conforms to its requirements. Thus, the platform can be implemented as a component of the highly protected environment of processing of financial data.[1]

2019: Release of a cloud service of the second generation of Generation 2 Exadata Cloud at Customer

The Oracle corporation announced in September, 2019 release of a cloud service of the second generation of Generation 2 Exadata Cloud at Customer and announced services of the autonomous Oracle database Autonomous Database Cloud at Customer. The Oracle Cloud at Customer model ("A cloud of Oracle at the client") allows the organizations to use safely all advantages of cloud services of Oracle Cloud Database in own data processing centers.

The cloud services of Oracle Exadata Cloud at Customer provided three years ago are developed to help the organizations easy to transfer workloads of databases, crucial for business, to a cloud computing architecture and to remove obstacles for use of a cloud. The release of new services Gen 2 Exadata Cloud at Customer confirms that the Oracle corporation continues to implement innovative strategy for providing cloud services of databases in data centers of clients. Such mozhdel it is attractive to those companies which cannot transfer the data to a public cloud because of requirements of business, regulatory restrictions or latency of network.

In Gen 2 Exadata Cloud at Customer the Oracle corporation provides a cloud service of databases of a corporate class with much the improved fault tolerance and automation, the simplified deployment and reduced costs in comparison with the previous generation. At the heart of Gen 2 Exadata Cloud at Customer — recently announced Oracle Exadata X8 complex which provides performance, best in the industry, and availability and also offers a broad spectrum of the exclusive opportunities based on modern machine learning. Besides, Gen 2 Exadata Cloud at Customer services use the modern management tools of Cloud Control Plane developed in the closest region of Oracle Public Cloud. It simplifies management of a cloud at simultaneous reduction of requirements to the occupied spaces, power and cooling of DPC. Now clients can use the same Oracle Cloud Web Gen 2 web interfaces and API interfaces for management of Exadata Cloud Service and Exadata Cloud at Customer.
