The name of the base system (platform): | Oracle VM (Virtualization) |
Developers: | Oracle |
Technology: | Virtualization, Server platforms |
The solution for virtualization of the Oracle VM Server for SPARC servers (the former name Logical Domains) is preset on the Oracle SPARC systems of series T. It allows to support work up to 128 virtual servers on one physical system due to multistream scalability of the SPARC servers of series T, including the new SPARC T3 servers thanks to what the flexibility and level of utilization of resources of the server, says Oracle increases.
Oracle VM Server for SPARC allows to use a set of different operating systems, including Oracle Solaris 10 and Oracle Solaris 11 Express, on series T SPARC servers, quickly to consolidate different environments of a core and at the same time to organize shared access to dynamically selected resources of the processor, network, storage systems, etc., developers emphasized. Besides, Oracle VM Server for SPARC supports difficult corporate IT infrastructures, including solutions based on Oracle Real Application Clusters.
Among expanded means of virtualization of a corporate class of the solution Oracle VM Server for SPARC it is possible to note: the improved performance — the architecture with low hardware costs provides scalable performance in the conditions of increase in workload (additional performance improvement is reached thanks to direct input-output of the bus PCIe which appoints the separate PCI cards to guest domains, providing access to all bandwidth of input-output and not requiring selection of all bus PCI); expanded resource management — dynamic reconfiguring of memory allows to add and delete memory of the active domain thanks to what the companies can optimize IT infrastructure according to business priorities (thanks to the fact that the whole core of the processor is selected and the process binding to a core is performed, it is possible to optimize purpose of virtual processors and to achieve higher and predictable performance for all types of applications); the improved power management — change of clock rate of the processor, power management of memory and installation of ultimate capacity of a power supply provide optimal energy consumption of a system; the increased flexibility — Oracle Solaris OS is optimized for migration of guest domains using the solution Oracle VM Server for SPARC providing flexible migration of active domains; higher level of readiness — the optimized access to virtual disks via several controllers (multipathing) increases readiness of virtual environment and allows to guarantee that means of processing of failures of virtual disks will be able to cope with failures of domains of input-output, storage devices and channels of access to storage devices; the improved protection of data processing — series T integrated into the SPARC systems cryptographic accelerators on a crystal support enciphering with a speed of wire connection, provide protection crucially of important data and services of the user and reduce response time of a system.
