Orange Business Services: Internet VPN

The Orange Business Services operator announced in the spring of 2013 providing new service — the managed Internet VPN. Within this service in all branches of the client company the routers organizing a secure channel of communication over any IP connection from any provider and integrating branch networks in the uniform protected space are installed. At the same time the equipment remains in the property of the operator — legally the client does not bear responsibility for his operation. Besides, since April 8 the company is going to provide connection to such VPN and for users of mobile devices, both computers running Windows, and tablets with iOS and Android.

"Uniqueness of service — in legal support" — Paplinski Pavel, the director of the department of strategy and marketing of the Russian department of Orange noted. The matter is that for operation of the equipment with the built-in enciphering which is used for creation of VPN it is necessary to obtain the license for operation of cryptographic tools from FSB with all that it implies problems on observance of requirements of government decree No. 313 "About licensing of activities for development, production, distribution of cryptographic (cryptographic) tools". Not all companies can fulfill the requirements of this resolution — to them simpler to receive similar services from the operator who will provide the solution of all legal problems and guarantees safe data transmission between segments of corporate network.

Services are provided based on the equipment Cisco — routers 881 and 1941 which are installed in the territory of the customer. They provide connection of segments of corporate network among themselves, and it is not obligatory for them to have contact with the central server for this purpose. For creation the VPN client tunnel needs to receive only the stationary IP address from an Internet provadera. However, on assurances of specialists of Orange, connection can be organized including on the mobile channel.

As the encryption algorithm standard AES is used, as allows to provide services of remote access to individual clients — they will use at the same time the standard means of connection which are built in operating systems. As Orange — the international operator, to it is authorized to use in the territory of Russia those means of protecting which are for it standard in other countries, including all necessary permissions from FSB. It is technology possible to organize also cross-border data transmission. At this VPN it will be organized to the protected gateway of the operator, and it is decrypted further and on own network of the operator it is transferred abroad.

Offering new service to the Russian users, Orange expects to expand the presence in the market — to reach those clients who could not use other company services, such, for example, as IP-VPN with service quality assurances on own network of the operator or connection of local networks without enciphering on MPLS VPN technology.

New connections on Internet VPN technology can appear both at old clients, and at absolutely new. Generally services are expected medium-sized companies in spheres of a retail, logistics and trade in oil products. But services of the protected data transmission can be the popular and large companies with a big branch network, and the small companies which have several points of presence, for consolidation of segments of their corporate network in a common information space. Now Orange is in the third place on provision of services of VPN for business from shares in 17% of the market, conceding to VimpelCom (29%) and Rostelecom (23%). Thanks to introduction of new service the operator expects to increase the sales by 10% and by that to get closer to market leaders of VPN.^[1]
