Predintegration with Alexa Custom Assistant service

Qualcomm Technologies and Amazon announced the joint project of the companies on preintegration of Alexa Custom Assistant service into the Qualcomm Snapdragon Automotive Cockpit platform. A system is created for support of OEM manufacturing of the automotive industry and suppliers of the Tier-1 level during creation of the configured onboard clever assistants and is offered as expansion unit for a developer kit of Alexa Automotive Software Development Kit (SDK). It will be delivered on the platform of the 3rd generation Qualcomm Snapdragon Automotive Cockpit in the nearest future and also on the Qualcomm Snapdragon Automotive Cockpit platform of the 4th generation.

Alexa Custom Assistant is created based on Alexa technologies and can be adapted for different automobile brands together with awakening commands, voice maintenance and functionality. This solution is provided to OEM car makers on the terms of the provisional agreement in the form of expansion unit for Alexa Automotive SDK and provides access to technology speech artificial intelligence (AI), including the mechanism of awakening Alexa by a code word, understanding of colloquial turns of speech, redirection of requests and approval of response that allows developers to build, offer and support experience of speech management without considerable investments.

In a system the Snapdragon Automotive Cockpit Platforms platform together with Qualcomm of Smart Audio Platform and Qualcomm Voice Assist with function of multichannel suppression of an echo and noise (echo cancellation noise suppression, ECNS) and quick access to Alexa services is used even if in salon several people at the same time talk. In addition a system uses technology of identification for a voice and suppression of zone noises for personal setup of the voice assistant.

The provided functionality can be also implemented through Qualcomm Car-to-Cloud services with their set Soft SKU that allows car makers and suppliers of the Tier-1 level to be updated with transition to the solution Alexa Custom Assistant in the wireless mode. The Qualcomm Car-to-Cloud service is intended for timely updating of systems in salon and the integrated means of processing and information transfer and also offers flexible approach with a possibility of unblocking of functionality after deployment.

We created the assistant to Alexa Custom Assistant in response to the growing demand for individual digital solutions which would be special for each brand, at the same time having saved all completeness of a portfolio of the first-class technological solutions of Alexa for customers — Ned Curic, the vice president of Alexa Automotive told. Preintegration of Alexa Custom Assistant into the Snapdragon Automotive Cockpit platforms allows the OEM companies to lower monetary and time expenditure and also complexity of transactions and to offer the clients an opportunity of the choice and flexible approach to setup of at the same time working intellectual assistants.

Start of the platform

In January, 2021 Qualcomm provided Automotive Cockpit technology.

Earlier car makers independently implemented the multimedia systems, using own practices, however the Qualcomm company changed a situation. The Qualcomm Snapdragon Automotive Cockpit technology of the 4th generation was designed as the central computing node of all car.

A system combines artificial intelligence, cloud computing and also differs in light scalability under different tasks. Besides she is capable to be supported any performance level existing for January, 2021.

As a result a system can work not only as multimedia, but also to be configured for work with other blocks. thus, thanks to a release of the platform car makers I will be able to improve the information entertainment complexes. In particular it will allow to use the existing voice assistants, to improve graphics and to increase work speed.

Also the Qualcomm Snapdragon Automotive Cockpit system will be connected with the smart home, I use communication of a 5G. The technology will appear on a car already in the second half of 2021[2].
